Hey gang,
It just occurred to me that since the last codex to come out for 40K that the Imperial Guard is now officially called the Astra Militarum. Did GW want you guys to keep calling them the Guard in this game or does someone need to look at replacing that with Astra Militarum everywhere?
Just something I thought of.
Thanks,
Duncan

Imperial Guard or Astra Militarum?
The Warhammer 40K games all need more T'au Empire units.
Re: Imperial Guard or Astra Militarum?
You can still call them Imperial Guard if you read the codex carefully
Both of the names are printed on the title page

Afaik the Armageddon Steel Legion is not part of the Imperial Guard or Astra Militarum or whatever GW calls it now, its a Planetary Defence Force (PDF), one of the more sophisiticated ones at that.
Armageddon does not tithe troops for the Guard and its Steel Legion is purely tasked with defending Armageddon.

2Floppinger - Wrong. Steel Legion IS an imperial guard force. Armageddon PDF is known as Armageedon Hive Militia and Armageddon Ash Waste Militia

Re: Imperial Guard or Astra Militarum?
Ah yes, just read it up on the Lexicanum (according to which, the Ash Wastes Militia is Imperial Guard aswell).
So, the Steel Legion is Imperial Guard, but does not operate outside the Armageddon System and basically acts there as a local military (next to the actual local military of Armageddon). The whole traveling all over the Galaxy and not sit on their homeworld business (which is kinda the point of the Imperial Guard) does not appear to be a thing for the Steel Legion.
You are right, although I call badly written GW canon (probably streamlining for the table top).

Re: Imperial Guard or Astra Militarum?
Wrong again, sorry. Steel Legion does fight all over the galaxy just like any other guard force. It's just that their most famous battles were fought on their homeworld.
Examples:
*Armageddon 808th has fought in the Spinward Frontin the Calixis Sector.
*Armageddon 16th has put down a Cassell Rebellion on Cassell Agri-World
*etc, etc
