More Seasons - Experimental

While I'm at it: experimenting with further season styles. Perhaps more mod packs? Just for variety's sake.

Autumn: No big changes, same tiles like Central Europe, just the vegetation object textures are modded.

Winter without snow: depressing landscapes sometimes make ideal battlegrounds. :wink: Central Europe used as base, toned down the colours about 60%.

Look really good seems to transform the game...Giving it more atmosphere. Thanks for providing us with the Snow mod.

Some updates and info.

Revised the Summer vegetation textures; below how they look in the game (Odenathus' Morat scenario):

The new look of trees and shrubs is caused by "perforating" the texture. Below left the original, right the modded texture.

All five season packs will contain the new tree textures. Winter/Snow, Summer and Spring packs are finished, Autumn and Winter/NoSnow will need some more work. I've got a day off tomorrow, so I hope I can finish the better part of it.

The Summer pack is based on the vanilla SouthernEurope terrain style, only vegetation texture is modded. And pine trees (like with 'TreesRoadStraight seen below') are replaced by common deciduous trees. You will still have two kinds of single pine trees though.

Wondering if the Devs could intergate "Seasons" into main game, or perhaps just the Skirmish mode under advanced settings ? Then we could choose which season we would like the battle to take place.I certainly think it would be a great add on.

Hi Adebar,

I'm really looking forward to this mod, it looks great. One small comment I would like to make though; I'm not sure if these new sparse trees are suitable for summer. Trees are normally very thick with vegetation in Summer, it is in Spring, Winter and perhaps Autumn (Fall) when they should look bare.

You're right, they look sparse when you're zooming in very close (which I do only seldom) but zoomed out they are ok IMO. But I'll keep on experimenting with the tree textures for the Summer pack, perhaps replacing them with less perforated ones some day. The first version of the mod pack which will hopefully be finished and realeased soon will include the textures in the screens above though.

BTW, they look quite picturesque in some other game too ... :wink:

Klaber Fraktur. I like it, although all Gothic type fonts look terrible when it comes to words in majuscules (which this game unfortunately uses for scenario and texture files in the editor).

Thanks for that Adebar,

I like the Klaber Fraktur font, but you are right, it is a bit difficult to read.

However, this did inspire me to look on the web for fonts suitable for the 16th/17th century. I found these;

I particularly like Hultog. Included in the download is an italic version, which I am using in game at the moment and looks really good while still very readable.

I wish I knew how to include a screenshot of it in this post, unfortunately I don't!

Tested Hultog Italic in the game - unfortunately it has no German umlaute and "ß" ... :(

That's a shame. It should still be good for English language users though.

Yes, I have a new scenario; Combat at Leuze 1691. It will be ready for download in a day or two. It was a cavalry battle at the end of the 1691 campaign in Flanders, famous for the charge of the French Horse Grenadiers of the Guard.
