Slightly O/t. But the VN65 engine is simple yet detailed enough that it would be excellent if adapted as a strategy layer for a tactical squad/platoon based game, like Team Assault, Close Combat, combat mission, squad assault, or theatre of war, that type of scale of game. Every time an infantry platoon sprite clashed with a VC we would zoom into a battlefield composed of just the units in all the adjacent hexes for a detailed multi squad on squad and/or vehicle unit combat at the scale of the games I mentioned above. Combat would be resolved in the tactical layer and then back to the strategy layer.
This topic gets brought up from time to time. But such a game has not been successfully implemented for a long time. Not in any detail anyways.
