Attachments to posts BUG

I'm having problems with attachments since the new forum's:

The first-time upload's just fine, but when I use the "preview" button or want to edit my post later, usually two of the three attachments "vanish".

Yes, thanks, Gabe. Same here, occasionally, and a couple of times I had to copy all text, delete the post, and start over. I hope, though, that they will preserve the simplified attachment process which allows multiple images to be uploaded at once and eliminates that middle step which we talked about - the second upload or attach button to press which was redundant.

Agree. The new multi-selection of files is a big plus (at least for me :) ).
Wouldn't hurt to be able to attach more than three to a post, though...

And the size limit for pics seems to be 1MB? Really? Why, why, why? I just want to add some screenshots and not have to bother...

You can't really blame them for that. All of this stuff is being stored someplace on a server and space is not unlimited.

I'll tell you a couple of things that you already know perhaps:
  • Always use jpg instead of png because jpg's are much smaller file size.
  • Any photo editing program can save jpg's with downgraded quality settings but still show sharp, clear images which are more than good enough for these forums. Below, I took a photo that could not be uploaded here due to its size and I went to save it while using the option to downgrade its quality to be below the 1MB limit. I did not actually save it (because I like it as it is) or post it here but I could have if I had finished this save job:

Capture1094.jpg (414.54 KiB) Viewed 3114 times
Capture1095.jpg
Capture1095.jpg (376.12 KiB) Viewed 3114 times

Cropping images also helps, obviously, because the smaller the image, the smaller the file size. I do a lot of cropping for another reason, though: It focuses the view on what I want to be seen instead of just uploading the entire screen print and expecting folks to find what I am talking about.

If that's the case, okay, but why not at least give a small warning. It looks like it's uploading, but it ain't.
I've uploaded my mod here before, so it must've worked with larger files prior to the forum's update.

Out of the about 600 screenshots I've made inside the game by now since posting here on the forum, only eight JPG files are >1MB, and one of them happens to be the one I wanted to use earlier today. Bad luck combined with my quick temper resulted in the previous posting...

Yeah, that's what I meant with "not have to bother"

I don't mind editing the pics (and do it quite often), but now I have to crop them, too, and watch for the file size? :?

That's a very good point which I can vouch for myself. There is no message telling you that the file is over the size limit. As you say, the file just sits there, not available for inline attachment and not really attached to the message itself. I hope the forum administrators are reading these messages.

Yes, I just did a screen print of the opening scene of Panzerkrieg and the jpg file is only 444.3KB (versus 3.5MB for the png version) so I don't think you are going to have trouble very often. Sometimes you do, though, and I don't know why it would vary that much on the same computer. I would imagine that if you were using a Jumbotron for a monitor, your screen prints could be very large due to the greater resolution but I don't have the expertise to say that with any confidence.

Well, it's apparent you know the tools. I would say the good news is, only in the case of a full screen print uploaded straight from the raw image that the game saves will you occasionally have a problem. The moment you crop an image, of course, it cuts down on the file size.

Attachments in the new forum are still screwed it seems, and I don't even dare to edit post anymore, as this screws them up even more....

I wanted to start a new playthrough of one of Erik campaigns today, but with the attachments system broken like this, I don't know. :|
I really want my posts to look okay and in order. Sorry about this, but again I'm enraged and need to vent some steam...

Luckily, like with geysers, those eruptions don't last very long...

Back to topic and original post, here is what Gabe was talking about. Notice that I have six images attached but when I go to edit this message, only one appears. The others are inaccessible and stuck:

On the bright side, posts with only one attachment seem to work okay...

Attaching a zip file to a post does not work for me. Graphics are OK.

Even if smaller than 1 MB?

Smaller than 1MB?
That's not very useful. Last one I tried was 1.4MB.
(graphics can be larger if I remember correctly)

Previously yes, but after the update I think all attachments have to be <1MB (pic or zip).
But I didn't think it would be the same for moderators?

OK, but why is there no system message if your zip is larger than 1MB?
It just refuses to add the file, in my case anyway. And you are not aware until after the post has been submitted.
Methinks this must be handled better.
Adding pics and attachments is important when you need help and also if you want to help somebody.

Please, please, please, do finally something about this. If I'll edit a post with >1 attachments, I can't change/modifiy/delete the others.

I have a post now with an updated model as well as the old one - that I can't delete out of the posting ( see here). Holy...
