Do you have any controller (joypad, joystick, etc) plugged in your system?

Please try to disable all background programs in case these are interfering with the normal running of the game.
You can do this by running msconfig and disabling all non-windows start-up programs and services.
Then once you have disabled all non-Microsoft services, please run the game and see if the issue persists.
If it does not, please then reopen msconfig and reenable those services, one by one, until you find the program causing the problem.

A tutorial on how to do this can be found below:

disabled everything and it still is unusable. I really wanted to play this game but I can't get it to work without mouse control.

Got the game gifted to me by a friend today so that we could play together, and getting the same problem.

Am I seriously expected to unplug my joystick, throttle, and rudder pedals just to be able to play a game with mouse and keyboard? It will screw up every single game I use those for since the device ID will change for the devices, meaning I have to mess with control configurations in every single flight simulator I touch, every time I've touched this game.

I guess I come off as a little hostile, but it increasingly common (even in AAA titles!) that the game auto-detects devices and chooses on its own what I'm supposed to use. What happened with getting to choose control devices like a human being?

@Inkompetent

Unfortunately this issue is more usual than you think and all the times I have experienced this was with AAA games like XCOM, Risen, etc.
I gave up of having my Saitek pedals and my Thrustmaster joystick plugged on the computer because of issues like these.
I've only have them plugged when I want to play the game I intend to use them.

Please also note that this won't happen with everyone who got a different type of control attached to their system.
I have just checked and I don't experience the issue with my other controllers plugged in.

Having said this, it doesn't means that the developer of Heroes of Normandy won't try to fix the issue.

@MarvinC
Can you please attach a DxDiag report file?
How to get a Directx Dialog file:

1. click on "START" (on Windows 8 Press "Windows Key" + "R" and go to step 3)
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

GOT it. Some phising software had installed VJoystick. Once deleted, the game runs fine.

Thanks for all your suggestions. :D

I just bought game and my AnkerĀ® Ergonomic Optical USB Wired Vertical Mouse 1000 / 1600 DPI, 5 Buttons CE100 works but is off by about 1 inch on the screen. Which means I have to click 1 inch off to the left of any button on the screen to make it work. Have any fixes for this please? Also tried just a regular HP Mouse and does the same thing. Very Very hard to play with trying to figure out where to click on the screen. thank you in advance for help.

Seems like the mouse works fine after today's patch, even with my rudder pedals and joystick+throttle connected. Nice :)

Maybe it was the patch that fixed the screen/Mouse problem. I bought on Steam so it must have happened automatically.

Can you please post more details of your setup and the results you are seeing so the devs can try and narrow down the issue.

Cheers

Pip

When I start the game, I am able to navigate the first menu but once I select something such as campaign, the mouse begins to repeatedly snap back to the centre of the screen when I try to move it in order to select one of the three campaigns. I have found that in order to circumvent this, I have to hold down ALT and press PLAY GAME when I first boot up the title in order to bring up the input settings sub-menu. I have already remapped the default joystick axes over to my throttle but in order to prevent the mouse centering bug, I have to remap the controls over to the throttle each time.

I have Windows 7 - 64 bit Home premium edition with the latest updates.
Razer DeathAdder 3000 left-handed mouse with latest drivers
Microsoft Sidewinder 2 FFB joystick
Saitek RHINO X55 throttle with latest drivers
TrackIR5 with latest drivers.

games doesn't work well with too many controllers installed, just unplug them and retry and see if that helps you, as it's a known issues with joysticks installed as it's been mentioned before here.

then repost if it does or doesn't help you

good luck, as this isn't game related either but a driver issues with the joysticks you and many others have, unplugging them works fine then, with mouse only installed

Anyone left at tech support?

Zak, as I mentioned earlier, I am not going to crawl around under my desk to unplug 3 USB devices each time I want to play this game and then have to go and plug them back in when I want to play a flight sim (which is my main gaming focus). I've had a few other games over the years that have also had a controller conflict but this is the exception, not the norm so obviously it can be corrected.

as of yet your the only one with a issue on it tbh, while others have other issues, none are the same as yours so unless the developer can replicate it, it will be hard to fix.

drivers and hardware conflicts aren't something that anyone can foresee or cater for, as not every device can be tested with, my advice to either update the software or unplug the device that causes the issue imo is still the best course of action i can think of for now, while the developers are busy fixing the next update for the cards being developed, sorry for this, but not a lot i can do.

Can you not add an option to disable controller inputs through the settings page?
