This is a thread where I will share my progress of my old OCD: finishing Legion Arena without a single battle lost.
I won't post only a general info on each minicampaign, instead I'll sometimes take some more detailed notes about the scenarios. So this will be a OCD feat. Walkthrough mashup. (Maybe "crawlthrough" it'll be, as I'm - hopefully - notorious for my usage of infantry armies.) Otoh, I won't waste your time with a detailed battle plans for every little skirmish, and namely the opening minicampaigns will be described without unnecessary details.
As always, I play stock Legion Arena with a Very Hard setting.

Latium (the first minicampaign):
I started by dismissing all initial units, then I purchased Nobles. They will be my only horsemen, and although they are worse then Auxiliary Cavalry, they level up faster and their drawbacks are not really big.
Nobles won the first scenario Defiant Farmers without any troubles.
A distractive Militia joined us for Latin Expedition to ease the job of Nobles.
Sabine Ambush was uneventful.
And I purchased pin cushion Velites for the Scout the Etruscans, where I wished to neutralize the javelin fire of the enemy Skirmishers.

The Early Republic (the second minicampaign):
During the Aequi Raiders I bought my second permanent unit, Auxilia, and hid it in the bushes on left, while cavalry routed as many enemy infantry as possible, starting with skrimishers.
Hernici Farmers were defeated after they cracked on my line of infantry made of Auxilia and two temporal Militias. Nobles attacked the enemy rear, then they encircled the incoming wave.
A temporal Scouts were acquired for Coriolanus with an order to route the two enemy Skirmishers and then lure the heavy infantries into the forest where my Auxilia waited for them. It was necessary to rally them after they were hit by the javelin fire. Once I got rid of the most dangerous enemy, both Auxilia and Nobles attacked the remaining enemy light infantry. Btw, this scenario seems to be bugged, as I lost it on one of my previous runs, when my general died. Also, Coriolanus, a level 1 Legate, killed five of my horsemen. Stupid.
I deployed my whole infantry section for the Latin Revolt, two Auxilias and a pincushion Milita. They were rodered to rush into the forest behind the enemy lines so that they don't waste time with throwing the pila. This way they don't get caught in the open by enemy horsemen. Nobles stayed at home for this battle.
Another permanent unit, Velites, joined us during Etruscaens at Caere. I rushed the infantry into harsh terrain, routed the Skirmishers with Nobles and then massacred the enemy heavies in the bog.

Gauls and Latins (the third minicampaign):
Men in Black were bloody as usual. I bought temporal Skirmishers and Militia, the latter were meant as a wall behind which the Nobles might fall, once they trample the enemy level 17 infantry. But this plan failed and the Nobles were massacred, but not sooner before they inflicted massive damage on enemy units. The rest of squads held the rough in the east and repealed the nemy... although only so so.
I used only Auxilias and Velites for Gallic Scouts, they were rushed into the rough where they defeated the enemy cavalry without much troubles.
Thirsty Gauls is quite hard battle, if the enemy breaks through or disorganizes our troops. I made a defensive cluster in SE rough terrain, with double pincushion Militia marching into the arrow fire. Another Militia backed by a temporal Auxilia held the left flank. Nobles were in reserve, once the battle started they sneaked through the lines and neutralized enemy archers; once the battle culminated, they sieved the routed squads.
For Lingering Gauls I used the temporal Skirmishers (that have made three levels so far) for the last time, bought several light infantries to absorb the arrows, purchased a first permanent unit of Auxiliary Archers and made a cluster in the SE corner. Nobles went on long range killing spree, then they returned to the base and finally seived the whole scrum.

For the Conscript Revolt/Annoying Gauls I purchased temporal Nobles to get rid of enemy Skirmishers, I also strenghtened my lines with one own Skirmishers I planned to use a bit few battles onwards. (Sadly they were crippled.) I made a cluster in woods, rushed Legate and "real" Nobles against the opposing light infantry to capture them in the open; the remaining men held those initial positions in the forest. All went (quite) well, except for the poor Skirmishers.
Campanian Allies is a mess, especially with the low number of troops allowed. I bought a pincushion Hastati to break the centre, Scouts to route one of the Skirmishers on enemy flank, and ordered my Nobles to do the same unto the others. Remaining men positioned themselves in woods.
For the next battle, Conclude the War, I took a pincushion Velites and Skirmishers. These were used to distract the enemy Skirmishers on Samnites' flanks. A second Auxiliary Archers joined our ranks, too. I made a cluster in SW and lured the heavies into the rough were they were an easy prey.
A pincushion Hastati were once again used during Annexation of Etruria. They held the centre where they ate lots of javelins. Remaining men made a defensive cluster around the patch of rough terrain in SE.

The Second Samnite War (the fifth minicampaign):
I acquired the first heavy infantry, Legionaries, for Relieve of Neapolis. Then when I bought Stronger Bows for my Archers and got myself pincushion Paesants to hold the left flank, I was left with exactly zero gold. I rodered my men into defense on right flank, Nobles started the battle with few overruns, then they were sent to reserve until the battle culminated.
For Battle of Caudine Forks my men were positioned in SE around the rough patch, withtwo pincushion skirmishers in front. Nobles held the rear, ready to patch any hole.
Pincushon Hastati were purchased for Battle of Lautulae. They stood in front of my main army that took up the positions in woods and around them, where they waited the wave. Nobles neutralized the front Skirmishers, then encircled the enemy once they made the cluster in the woods.
I designed a complicated plan for the Etruscan Treachery (using some pincushion Scouts and Auxiliary Cavalry), a plan too hard to unravel in words. The only thing that matters is that it worked and I passed through this usual chokepoint with 16 seconds remaining. Nice one!
Final Battle ahead of us. I bought several Skirmishers to make a distractive line to absorb the javelins, then ordered my cavalry (Nobles and temporal Scuts) to attack the enemy right flank in two waves: Nobles will open the hole, Scouts will pursue the Skirmishers behind. Rest of troops made a defensive arc around the forest with heavies out in the open field on left. I lured some light infatry there. Enemy javelinmen depleted their ammo on my expendable troops. Heavies entered the forest where the Auxilia made short work of them. Nobles overran many routed enemy. This battle ended with zero non-pincushion healing and I bathed in experiences.

The third Samnite War (the sixth minicampaign):
I purchased another permanent Legionaries, and I also got myself temporal Scouts to pursue the enemy Skirmishers during the Etruscans. I ordered my cavalrymen to get rid of the aforementioned javelinmen, other units made a usual defensive cluster based in the woody terrain.
For Battle of Sentium I bought some temporal pincushions, javelinmen for the left flank, Nobles for the right. I made a defensive line with core Nobles in rear, ready to exploit any chance.
Two temporary Velites helped us during Samnites, as there are lots of enemy javelinmen that could be too dangerous. Nobles were ordered to lure the enemy heavy infantry squads into river hwere my Auxilias massacred them. (Btw, river should act differently and it should hinder ALL units; even the light infantry doesn't like to fight shoulders deep in a mud or water.) All missile troops were hiding in the rear so that they don't deplete ammo, and they were rushed forwards only after the enemy heavies were routed. As usual, cavalrymen seived lots of additional experiences. A bug happened and my light infantrymen rushed forwards and forwards and forwards, until the enemy Skirms kicked their butts.

I don't use the heavy infantry during Siege of Arretium, instead I hide my light units behind the wall of temporal Auxilias in forest on left flank. Cavalrymen are rushed to the north out the harm's way, and they overran the routed.
Legionaries stayed at home again for the Battle of Vadimo Lake. I bought several light infantries to make a second-grade defensive line in rough. This bought me enough time to destroy enemy left flank, traverse the battlefield with my units, and to hold the positions in the central harsh terrain.
I purchased the last permanent unit for Cisalpine Gauls scenario, Triarii.Most of my men held the centre while the cavalry destroyed enemy Skirmishers. Then I ordered my Auxilia into harsh terrain where they easily dispatched all the horsemen and heavy infantry. Soon after the battle was over.
Battle of Heraclea is quite difficult, as the space is limited. I bought four Skirmishers as pincushion squads, ordered the rest of my units behind them and once the lines met, Nobles rushed for the Archers. Auxilia was hiding in the woods and didn't take a part in the opening stage of the battle.
Two pincushion Skirmishers were purchased during Battle of Ausculum. Nobles rode down some of the far troops, then returned back to the base in west. This battle isn't hard, just keep the things going on in harsh terrain.
I once again bought few pincushion units for Battle of Malventum and sent them forward to make mess in enemy lines. Auxilias held the left flank around the river bend, rest of the units were positioned in centre with Nobles in reserve ready to glue any hole. Alas, this battle turned grim and I had lots of fallen with over 1300 Fame necessary to heal.

I wrote that the "Battle of Messana is a limited deployment skirmish" and that's true. Other than that, the old info in the forgotten thread is outdated. Simply welcome the enemy cavalry with a wall of spears they'll break on.
Contrary to the above, for the Battle of Aggreigentum I still "haven't invented any better plan than just wait at the bottom of the map and let the enemy come for the missiles. I purchased two Militia baits, but I don't think that they'll do much, but at least they'll clog the centre and hopefully they'll eat an arrow or two before the enemy routes them." That's it.
I used three pincushion Skirmishers for the Battle of Alalia. They held the rocky ground with other units behind them. Heavies and cavalry were ready to exploit any opportunity.
I used similar plan for Battle of Adys. Skirmishers rushed forwards to make mess in enemy lines, one Auxilia held forest on right, the other went directly ahead into the rough. Heavies attacked their appropriate targets, Legionaries assaulted the light infantry, Triarii stopped the cavalry on our left flank.
Battle of Baggradas happens on a very flat plain, so there's just a small forest to which the Auxilias may lean. I made a defensive cluster, routed the enemy Skirmishers with my cavalry section augmented by temporal Scouts and then just let the enemy break on my lines.

The Second Punic War (the ninth minicampaign):
Ranging from level 18 to 11, my squads were ready to repel the enemy at Battle of Trebbia. I've made usual defensive cluster around the southern forest with temporal Skirmishers on top to eat the arrows. Once the enemy reached my positions, it wasn't hard to kill the necessary 150 men. Only the heavies payed the heavy toll. Esp. Triarii need to get some levels, they're still too vulnerable.
Battle of Cannae takes place on a completely flat plain with nowhere to hide. I bought four Militias to absorb the initial cavalry blow, then I purchased Nobles to disorganize enemy left flank so that I can kill the Archers somehow. All my units made a line in west wehre they dispatched the cavalry, then I destroyed approaching enemy one at a time as they walked into the arrow fire, javelin storm and wall of spears. Temporal Nobles made few levels and lost only a single horse, so i kept them for time of need.
I hid the light units in forest on the east during Battle of Dertosia, while the heavies held the centre. Triarii were on the extreme left where they massacred the enemy horsemen after the energy of theri initial blow was absorbed in a line of pincushion Paesants. All went smoothly, the enemy heavies don't stand a chance when facing high-level Auxilia in woods.
For the Battle of Illipa I bought some distractive anti-elephant elements, then I ordered my men to find shelter in the woods. Temporal Nobles were sent to dipatch the missile troops, the core cavalrymen followed in their wake. I was too benevolent, though, and I lost this battle due to the time limit, although it's amazingly liberal.
PROGRESS LOST DURING THE BATTLE OF ILLIPA.
So, having more than a half of the whole campaign behind me, I lost for the first time. There's nothing special about it, and it happened only because I was too unfocused and I didn't take enough care of the time limit. I will follow this run further, though. I have a strong feeling that a lossless run is pretty doable. So far I got myself through all the usual bottlenecks of the game (be it Lingering Gauls, Etruscan Treachery, all the big bloody battles of Gauls nad Pyrrhos minicampaign), so there's no reason to not make it through. If only I had taken more care of the watches...
