Hello, guys!


I am glad to share my small modification for this great game.

Another day I started new game on Hard as Humans... and found out that Human Corvette and Freighter hulls has very small internal space. As a mediocre player, I'm really struggling making some worthy strike ship - it has very short ranged or is underpowered, comparing to other races' Corvettes. Cargo and engines space on Freighter is also very small, seriously limiting this class of ships. Of course, you can try to skip Corvette and rush to Frigate hull research, but this awful Freighter will be with you all the game long...

Something needs to be done here. Thankfully, modding this game is easy. =)

This mod:
  • adds some cargo, weapon and engine cells to Human Corvette and Freighter ship hulls, making these ship types more useful and easier to design;
  • does not remove any existing cells or change weapon/engine cells to other types, so this mod should not break any of existing ship designs and savegames;
  • by adding some engines cells to Freighter increases maximum amount of Dual TRE engines from 1 to 6, thus greatly increasing potential speed of your Scouts, Colonizers, Tankers, etc. Dual TRE is starting Human technology by default, and I felt it has very small use in vanilla hulls;
  • makes game easier for inexperienced players picking Humans race.

Mod installation instructions:
  1. Create directory for mods in your game folder (if you have no mods installed yet). For example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Polaris Sector\Mods\.
  2. Unzip contents of downloaded archive to your mods folder.
  3. Add in file C:\Users\%USER%\Documents\My Games\Polaris Sector\REMEMBER.CFG as second string (after "Locale") path to your mods folder, for example:
    CurrentModPath "Mods\"
  4. Run game and have fun. =)
I use this mod with 1.03c version of the game, had no issues so far.

I can't get it to work-- I'm sure it's something to do with EXACTLY how/what to add in the "Remember" file... Can you elaborate please?

Oy Vey-- still can't get it to work. I have the game installed on my SSD, and all the save game stuff defaulted to my Windows/C: drive as normal. So I put the mod folder in the game directory as instructed, changed the "remember" entry as described, and the game crashes. Experimented with putting the whole mod address in ("J:\Slitherine\Polaris Sector\Mods\"), but that didn't work either. Maybe it all has to be on the same HD to work?

Edit: Also, I don't have the Steam version but the direct download version. Any impact?
Edit 2: Since it wasn't mentioned, I assume you don't have to extract all the packed files or anything like that?

Success! Tried it fresh this morning and got it to work. Could swear I did the exact same thing as last night. I blame it on my computer-- couldn't possibly be MY fault! :roll:

Hi - does this still work with the latest version 1.05? Perhaps I am doing something wrong but when I add the CurrentModPath "mods\" line to the Remember file the game always crashes on startup. Love to use the new designs just don't know how!!

Edit: Just stumbled upon the solution: CurrentModPath "mods/" - the above instructions are wrong regards the backsplash. All is good, thanks.
