Tournament map size (+ force size)

There is no peace among the stars: the Imperium of Man is beset on all sides by all kinds of threats. Among them is the Orks, a barbaric and warlike xeno race. One of their fiercest leaders, Grukk Face-Rippa, leads his Red Waaagh! in the Sanctus Reach system...

Tournament map size (+ force size)

Post by Fosil »

so far I have only seen 2000 points game on medium map size for the Tournament matches. this map size reduces options for the initial deployment quite strongly. the player with even turns has to deploy in the backfield of his own spawn, because the player with the odd turns can deploy relatively to the map size very close to the opponents deployment zone, to have LoS on large parts of it. there are only a few tiles no mans land, where nobody can deploy. thats why the odd turn player is very threatening to every unit, thats not behind LoS cover or in the backside of the deployment zone.

in almost every case he can force engagements in turn 1 and in every case he has at least strong map control from the start. having larger map sizes, mitigates this turn 1 advantage, by having a larger no mans land, thats between both players deployment zones. larger maps play better with a larger force size, so force size would need a bump too.

Hello Fosil
Thanks for those suggestions, certainly valid points to bear in mind for subsequent tourneys
