does speed impact accuracy?

The Cylons have rebelled. The alliance of the Twelve Colonies falters. Take control of the Colonial Fleet and save humanity from an endless war.

does speed impact accuracy?

Post by Ron42na » Wed Dec 25, 2019 11:38 pm

Is a faster moving target harder to hit?

Does the speed at which the attacking ship is moving reduce their accuracy?

Thanks!

I do believe so, yes. Target speed, angle, and gun accuracy all play in critically when trying to take things down, this is why the Cerestes (sp?) anti-fighter craft are so deadly. Speed, decant armor, and the ability to take fighters out very effectively.

When at a 0 posture, or a "normal" power consumption rate (for colonials and Cylons, respectively) I believe that where you are moving to has less impact on hitting the target as their speed and the accuracy of the guns that are being brought to bear.

When posture is changed for Colonial vessels, it impacts ALL systems at once (a defensive posture will raise your marine readiness and Firewalls, and repairs, but lower your offensive accuracy and damage output), where as with a Cylon vessel, you can lock certain systems to a specific value (full power to hangar systems, guns, etc.) but all other systems will have less to work with. In theory, you could sacrifice all systems BUT engine output for speed and fire control accuracy on a Cylon ship to be both fast and accurate, but massively vulnerable to boarding, damage, etc.

Hope that helps.

I'm fairly certain this is a no, speed in itself doesn't inherently impact accuracy.

A related question: when firing guided missiles, is offensive or defensive stance taken into account for accuracy during the moment of fire, or the moment of hitting, or both? Often, you fire in one turn, and hit (or miss) in the next turn, so if you change your stance between those turns, which stance is most important? This seems important to me when you are the target for missiles as well.

Related: often, your ships and the enemy's are synchronous in the moments of readiness of your missiles. Is it a good idea to delay firing yours to absorb the enemy missiles on full defensive stance, while firing your own on full offensive stance? The flip side is that you delay your own fire power.

I don't believe it affects accuracy either.

However, speed can minimize the time you're in the effective weapon envelope, so higher speed can mean less damage under many circumstances.

these circumstances are very rare if you play right.

Speed does not affect accuracy, except in how changing the posture (or Cylon power distribution) of your ship does.

Munitions are not affected by the accuracy stat at all, however power to your Fire Control does affect salvo size.

Throwing a ship that is about to be punished into a defensive posture is advisable if you have no way to intercept the munitions, however, prevention through flak, chaff, or interception is preferred.
