Mounted Units Armour

just wondering how armour rating is worked out for mounted units. Is it a combination of the horses armour and the riders or the rider only? For example Cataphracts are fully armoured whilst Armoured Noble Lancers are just armoured. I thought about this after seeing the screens for FOG2 Medieval where a selected mounted Knights and Sergeants unit is Heavily Armoured, this is before the time period when mounts were really heavily armoured.

As in the tabletop system, armour ratings are worked out somewhat differently in Medieval than in Ancients. This is because the system is designed to get the right relative effect between troop types in the same time frame, not to attempt to simulate what would happen if Ancient Egyptians or Romans met Medieval knights.

Having said that, "Heavily Armoured" Knights (which is a lesser armour rating than Fully Armoured cataphracts) had full head-to-toe armour for the men, and the horses of the front ranks at least mostly had cloth caparisons (which would offer some protection) or chain barding.

Anyway, as I say, the system is relative, depending on the time period, not absolute.
