Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
We're on turn 2 of the Tides of Conquest 500 AD global campaign, and I'm doing another call-out for players.
The game uses the Tides of Conquest app to view the map and do orders, available here:
viewtopic.php?f=494&t=85832
I'm available to walk anyone who needs help through the set-up process
The campaign thread is here:
viewtopic.php?f=477&t=85060
Open positions include:
The Sassanids
The Hunas (aka the Hephthalites, a hybrid Central Asian/Indian army that rules Afghanistan and northern India)
The Guptas (the archetypal north Indian empire)
The Pandyas (their south Indian rivals)
The Wei dynasty (rules the northern half of China, with strong cavalry)
The Liang dynasty (rules the southern half of China)
The Yarlung dynasty (soon to become the Tibetan Empire)
The Saxons (still pagan, fighting the Romano-Britons for control of Britannia)
The Vandals (a Germanic north African kingdom, with an all-heavy lancer army)
The Rouran, a proto-Mongol steppe confederacy in the east
Rome, Dumnonia, the Ostrogoths, the Visigoths and the Franks all have players.
Or, you can start a new power. Want to unleash the fury of the Avars a generation early? Kick off the Slavic migration into the Balkans? Lead the Himyarids, a Jewish kingdom in south Arabia, to regional dominance? Bring the Pictish hordes south to compete for the rulership of the British isles? If it existed in the early 6th century, and there's an army list, we can do it.
The Saxons and Vandals suffered a reverse last turn, so they might not be in a position to fight offensively this turn, but anyone who takes them can still play out a battle on behalf of another realm.

You got the map extended to China?
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
Yep! Using your Silk Road mod armies. The Qiang are still standing in for the Tibetans, but if by any chance there were later Tibetans in the pipeline...

What’s the time commitment in this. Maybe I’ll take up Northern Wei.

Just noticed this. Looks interesting. I'm just playing with the app trying to figure stuff out and need to read through the rules at least slightly but would like to join. Would Gepids be an option for me to take?
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
Played around with the app a bit, seems very interesting. If you'll have me, I'm tempted by your mention of the Himyarids, but if it's more useful I can take the Wei or Hunas.
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
Great to hear from everyone!
Jomni - The game plays at a fairly relaxed rate. There are no hard deadlines, but I like to have battles wrap up in 10-14 days, if possible. As the Northern Wei, one of the bigger realms, you might have two to three battles in one turn. However, you're welcome to hand some battles off to another player, or have me fight them, or if they're against an NPC realm I can do them randomly. So, you can fight as few battles as you want, basically.
Shadowblack - Gepids are definitely an option. I'll set you up in Iazygia, which I think would have been the first center of the kingdom. If you raid neighboring tribes for a couple of turns that should start to expand your influence, and put you in a position to start conquering new territory.
Vardus - I think jomni might take the Wei but both the Himyarids and Hunas are definitely options. The Hunas start in the center of the action, while the Himyarids might need to do a bit of raiding around them to build up a sphere of influence. But either is fine.

In that case, I'll take the Himyarids. What turn should we come in on? This one, the one after, or the next? I also know I need for my nation to be added, but I'm not sure how complex or time-intensive that process is.
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
I can add you in time for this turn. I'll send you a customized setup with the Himyarids added.
Here's the customized setup file, for both the Himyarids and Gepids. For some reason the AI suggestions do not work for the two new realms, but I recommend raiding your neighbors and then building an extra army in your home province. It's good for your realm's reputation to fight every turn.

I’m officially in as Northern Wei
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
Eager to hear how this goes, but probably can't commit beyond subbing in for a battle or two here and there. Good luck everyone!
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
Why not try out a power - there are small ones available and even the bigger ones only require a few orders at this time. The app makes ordering really easy and it only takes a fraction of the time that fighting a FOG 2 battle takes.
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
In that case, I think I will try out a side. I will take any available, but prefer Silk road factions such as Liang, Rouran and Yarlung. (Is it ok if I don't have Belisarius? 500 AD is Belisarius dlc right?). Seems like we need as many as we can get after all.
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
Hi Kongxinga - the game does need Belisarius for the west, but I think the Silk Road mod lets you play all the eastern armies.
Re: Tides of Conquest 500 AD campaign, looking for more players
For multiplayer, you can play factions from DLC you don’t own. Though not sure if you can play battles vs AI (for AI-run factions) in the campaign Nijis is running.
