No Commander in Chief ?

Post by Stimovsky »

I just started a game with a Byzantine army.
I have no C-in-C, but 4 sub-generals.
Is this a bug ?

I guess it must be. What sort of game is it, a custom battle, a campaign battle, a quick battle, or an Epic Battle?

I anything like that happens again, please can you take a screenshot as soon as you notice.

It's in the Age of Belisarius tournament, round 3.
Here are the screenshots of my Byzantine army, with 4 SG and no C-in-C
Please let me know if I can help,

No wonder Constantinople will fall if the Commander in Chief doesn't show up for battle and no one cares about it.

The game goes to 600AD. Constantinople doesn't fall for over 850 years! :-)

That is where you're wrong young man!
What we've got here is a careless bastard of a general taking a small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind on the slippery slope.

But since even Byzantine Games seems to be fine with that, I understand I really shouldn't have invested in this timeshare in Constantinople.

A bit harsh. I did reply promptly to your initial post (allowing for not replying while I was asleep). You would think I might be permitted 2 days off for my daughter's wedding, but it seems not. Clearly, while a week is a long time in politics, 2 days is too long on the internet!

Anyway, thank you for reporting the issue. We will indeed look into it, and fix it when we have found the bug, which will require some detective work.

Were all 4 generals autoallocated by the game, or were any of them added manually during deployment? If so, how many were autoallocated, and can you remember roughly where they were before you moved them?

Please accept my apologies, I didn't mean to be rude. My post was a feeble attempt at some historical humor regarding the situation I'm in.
It's been quickly put together, cooked over a whole weekend and when you open the kettle on Monday morning, it smells really bad and I'm sorry.

I can't remember exactly how many generals were manually allocated.

No problem.

This seems to be a very rare bug, so it may take a while to figure out what could cause it.

What should happen in a cavalry army is that the general autoallocated to your centre non-light cavalry should be the C-in-C.

Mystery solved.

This will occur if you initially deploy your army (before clicking Accept) so that there are no non-light infantry units in the army, and no cavalry units in the centre of the army.

Can you confirm that this is what may have happened?

I will look into fixing the code so that if no C-in-C is allocated initially, he will instead get allocated to one of the wing commands.

You're right, this is the way I proceeded, placing and building up commands while still selecting troops.

No one ever doubted of your commitment to the game, and your talent is once more demonstrated. Thank you very much!
