I am perfectly happy with my graphic display.
Fair enough, but it seems a shame to pay for a dedicated graphic card, and then use the (inferior) on-board GPU. Game performance should be vastly improved by using the dedicated graphic card.

i can do a guide if you wish? if your prepared to uninstall the game and reinstall it etc and follow my instructions?

offer there if you wish, it would be on the same lines as these.

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4560905

i'd just use the latest game installer and patch from the members area.

as it's a lot simpler than asking you to go through all the permissions settings needed to be given to both the AV and firewall and windows etc, or you can just open a support ticket, who will read the post, and more than likely offer the same advice.

to double check which GPU is being used on a given game, run the game and then alt tab out, and open task manager

it will show something like this, and confirm you have to running on the system, and if you then go to the first tab, it will display a second page which will show which one is being used by the game, by just opening the pages on the game in the first tab called process.

Hello sIg3b,

The default AV for Windows 10 is Windows Defender, so have you tried temporarily disabling this and then trying to connect to the PBEM server? If not, please can you try this.

However, I think the issue is most likely to do with anti-virus or firewall permissions.

I will also notify technical support of the issue in case they have any other suggestions. (They read the technical support forum, but I doubt if they read the general forum).
Thank you!

Matter of fact, I care 90% about SP, so I would be happy with your wonderful game even without MP :) , but occasional MP games would be a bonus.

Sounds convincing. I may give it a try over the holidays.

(I don´t particularly like tampering with my system, and when I do so, I quintuple-check every step, and that takes time.)

if you check my post above on the task manager part, you may not have to, as i maybe wrong, it happens.

then if you like i can do a guide on how to install correctly which will setup the correct file permissions to run and save in windows 10, with the default AV and firewall running if you wish?

Actually, as I suspected, the right graphics card is already being used. :)

I appreciate y´all wanting me to enjoy the game even more, but I assure you the graphics do look very good, run without hickup, and everything seems fine on this front.

Deinstalling/reinstalling would be a lot of fuss, as I would also have to re-download everything and my connection is slow.

Windows says my Defender is set for "extended security", whatever that means.

It also says every incoming transmission is blocked, except from a list of explicitly allowed sources.

I don´t really want to risk turning it off, but I suppose I would somehow have to add the Slytherine server to the list of exceptions.

The error is actually coming from the server, so is unlikely to be caused by the AV affecting the Documents folder.

The game is potentially using the nVidia card as the dxdiag is going to show the current state of the system when run. Some laptops can switch cards in mid-stream too, based on load (which can cause all kinds of issues for the internals of a game, but that is another story).

My best guess at this point is that there is a firewall interfering with the outgoing data causing the problem. But I will find out more about the specifics that could cause the error code.

Cheers

Pip

Were you using the vanilla Custom Battles module or a mod (such as TT Mod)?

Please could you try again, making sure to use the default MP "Skirmish"/"Custom Battle" module and not any other.

I am absolutely sure, since I have not a single custom mod installed.

Only the base game, latest update and Immortal Fire DLC.

(Since it´s mostly about the fall of Persia, I would have titled it "Immortals Fired", but that´s another story.)

Thanks for the confirmation. We are still working on finding the cause.

Could perchance the order of installations have something to do with it? (I installed the Immortal Fire DLC AFTER the newest patch, not before.)

Very unlikely

We have found the cause of the problem.

Believe it or not, it is the "/" in your comment that confused the server.

Try again with "Relaxed game, 1-2 turns per day" (instead of "turns/day") and it should work correctly.

We will hopefully fix this issue in a future update.
