Oh, to have a camera in those Ancient days! Let us have a little competition between our "war artists" to see who can provide the most beautiful scene.

RULES

1) Format for Entries
  • Inline Screenshot
  • Title of "Painting"
  • Name the Troops
2) One entry per member (per week)
3) Submit entries as a reply to this post.
4) Winner decided by me, this time round. If the "Exhibition" is popular, next time round I shall ask a (non-participating) Slitherine to decide.
5) Prize: Glory!

We all look forward to seeing your "paintings". (Pro Tip: Shift+3 Provides a beautiful, closeup zoom)

Amazing one, pinwolf! Amazing! I think we shall struggle to beat that.

Thanks for your entry, Adebar! Could you please edit your submission so that the text appears under the painting? (Cut the text, and paste it under the painting.) We want to see the painting study it and then later read. The competition is for viewing, not reading.

Death of a Warrior
Great one, kilroy1, poignant. You somehow captured the care of the fallen warrior's comrades as they rally round their stricken friend.

Thank you everybody for participating! There were some surprisingly good entries (and titles!).

The winner is pinwolf with "The Vulture Roadside Picnic".

This depiction of the Battle of Cunaxa through its aftermath was chosen for its profundity. The picture's focus is on the foreground, where there is only a void, emptiness and stillness. The absence is formed by the lifeless bodies in the midground, all reason for their being there now departed. The only context is the Euphrates in the background.

I preferred this to another painting of the battle here:

Well done to pinwolf and everybody who took part!
