Got it.
is that cavalry unit engaged in combat? Are you talking about the one facing the irregular foot on the tracks between the forest? If so, tracks are not disordering terrain.
...Ummm..have you ever charged with a entire cavalry regiment along a track leading to a wood? Not me.....and I spent 40 years in cavalry units..... A truck in a wood or in the mountains is fine only for logistic movements. In combat it does not allow you to open your troops and it is just a little less difficult of the surrounding terrain.
what? i'm talking about the tile type 'tracks'. It is not disordering terrain. So, the cav unit in question did not anarchy charge into disordering terrain. There are also no anarchy charges into defensive terrain that provides defensive bonuses. Tracks though are just 'non open' afaik.

Sorry I was talking about real life. I am not an expert of the game and even less expert about programming software for simulation game. A cavalry squadron of 230 troopers (charging on two lines), like the one of my match, usualy cover a front of 200 m. (at least). A truck in a wood cannot be wider of 5 - 6 meters. I understand that for the game a truck in a wood cannot be considered "disordering terrain" but in reality it is as you cannot squeeze a unit with a front of 200 m in a truck 6 meters wide.

The current behavior for 'track' terrain is reasonable since the effect is only making the hex non-open terrain and hence negates the other terrain in the hex. Unfortunately the way the game displays the terrain so it appears that the other terrain in the hex should apply. It might well be a better representation of a trail if the effect was to negate the terrain in the hex for movement purposes but not for combat. This would more appropriately represent the difficulty of cavalry charging down a track through the forest.

Did people enjoy using the Alternative Gameplay Mod? There is a lot more to do on it and many adjustments to be made, I'm sure. But basically, was it a thumbs-up or a thumbs down for you?

Initial impressions are...
Thumbs up from me :-) The game doesn't feel massively different , just subtle changes really. Which is a good thing :-) It needs a change in mindset that I think makes it play more 'historically'. I didn't really notice anything 'broken'.

It's a thumbs-up for me. I think the changes in this mod improve the game but, for me, I am afraid that the frustrations of the base game are such that I no longer enjoy playing.

Havign said that, well done on the new version.

Which are your main frustrations with the base game?
Arranging the The Year of Many Emperors (TYME), Dividing the Spoils (DiSp), and The West is No More (TWiNM) tournaments for Field of Glory II!

I have enjoyed the games but did not see any large scale changes in the mode of play. The most significant difference to me was from the refusal of orders, which was disconcerting as it left units (and sectors) in danger. I understand refusals did occur but to have the unit then perform a command on the following move seems odd as it seems a rebelling unit would simply leave the field of combat.

Thanks for organizing the tournament, Schweetness!
Kyle

Well, a refusal of an order does not necessarily mean that the unit is rebelling. It could just mean that it was not ready to move on that turn and had sorted itself out by the next one.

I thoroughly enjoyed the mod. It feels much more like a large re-enactment or larp battle. Troops often not behaving themselves and charging or not charging when needed. It feels more realistic and therefore historical. I find myself much more in the role of guiding outcomes rather than having to work with precision in the strategy. Taking advantage of opportunities and preparing for disaster on every side suits my play style very much.

Sign me up for anymore of these. Its a brilliant mod.

Good to hear some people are enjoying the mod! There is only one match still outstanding in the 2nd round, but at this point I have just sent for their scores so far to be reported so we can continue with the tournament and start the 3rd round before people get too busy with the next FOG2DL season. Hopefully I will get those in soon, and then I will post the next matchups.

The final match has been reported as a 0-0. The results so far are:

Image

and the new matchups are: ***UPDATE: I accidentally put Cunningcairn and Challenge1 against themselves instead of against one another. I have edited the chart to fix this, sorry.

Image

I swapped Silvanol, cromlechi, phoyle3290, and MiceC_81 around slightly from their rankings to prevent phoyle3290 and MiceC_81 from playing each other twice, and I'll play wympryor in his third game myself because mceochaidh has had to withdraw. In the Matchups picture, if you find yourself in the first column, go across to the round 3 column to find your third round match.

You may host and start your games now!

The second round will be this matchup:

Roman (280-220 BC) vs Pyrrhic (280-275 BC). Mediterranean Agricultural. 1600 point armies.

Sorry for the delay.

Just message one another to determine who will host. Don't forget to apply the mod before hosting your match! And remember that these are mirror matches!

And feel free to post in this thread at any time with any feedback you have on the mod so far! Be viciously critical if you like! I'd really like to use the feedback from this tournament to remedy any remaining issues.

Hi all,

Trying to host the game challenge, but I'm seeing two army lists for Pyrrhic 280-275, and 274-272, but the post is saying Pyrrhic 280-272.

Which one is it?^^
