Late Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Post by stockwellpete » Tue Sep 29, 2020 10:05 am

Please use the following format when reporting your results . . .

Division A

hidde (Romans) beat stockwellpete (Dacians) 50-25

It is very helpful to me if we all get used to reporting the results in the same way, so please report the score as 50-25 rather than 25-50 when you have won. This avoids much confusion when discussing match situations by PM with regards to adjudication or some other issue regarding the rules of the tournament.

Division F

tomoegozen (Kingdom of Soissons) defeats wellsonian (Romans) 63 - 59.

A crazy game that was 59-59 going in to that final turn.It could have gone either way a number of times during the game. The resilience of my 'below average' sub roman foot was both unbelievably helpful and rather surprising!

thanks to a very unlucky wellsonian for a great game.

Division E

Rob123 (German Horse Tribes with Dacian allies) defeated snooky 51 (Parthian with Arab allies) 62-56

A close game that could have gone either way. The last 3 turns we sat on 58 and 59 trying desperately to get a rout.

Division D

Warg1 - Scots-Irish 50 BC-476 AD defeats Doyley50 - Roman 24BC-196 AD 57 - 24

Some very nicely placed rough terrain in the middle of the park certainly suited my masses of medium foot more so than it did for the Legions of Rome.

Division E

Morat (Lombards) beat Captainwaltersavage (Visigoths with Byzantine allies) 60-49

Rolling, broiling scrap that could have gone either way. Lombard cavalry enabled a fast start on the left flank. But masses of archers and stubborn infantry were hard to shift on the right: and a strong Visigothic fightback made it tense until the last couple of turns.

Many thanks to Captainwaltersavage for a great game, played in an excellent spirit.

Division F

TomoeGozen (Kingdom of Soissons with Germanic Foot Tribes allies) defeats telesien (Roman with Jewish allies) 68 - 37.

My superior auxilia and warbands managed to hold out just long enough on my left and centre to allow the combination of massed sub-roman foot , archers and cavalry to overwhelm telesians weaker left and deliver the coup de grace in the centre. It was really close until the final collapse with both sides suffering heavy losses along the main lines. The Kingdom of Soissons was also rather well served by their Germanic allies rallying from rout a few times!

thanks to telesien for a great game.

Division C

SLancaster (Roman 197-284 AD) and SawyerK (Byzantine 551-578 AD) fought to a 36 to 8 final score (SLancaster ahead) with all turns expired.

The battle took place on a map dominated by mountains and forests (at least 2/3 of the map) and the Byzantines had a number of cavalry units trapped in the limited open space in the first third of the game after which they merely tried to stay alive. It was a very frustrating game for the Romans and not a particularly fun one for the Byzantines giving the lack of space.

Division E for Eagles

Barrold713 (Palmryan) defeats Captainwaltersavage 53-28

Had to block superior cavalry for enough time to engage my legionaries with his warbands. The warbands didn't hang around long and the line was blown apart before the cav could break free and help. I had a cataphract unit with a general and it fragmented on the first melee with his lancers.

Thanks for the match and good game.

Division C

SLancaster (Roman 197-284 AD) defeated oscarius (Jewish Revolt 66-135 AD). 47-13.

A hard slog v the Zealots. I managed to keep my line together and push on. Jewish Revolt 166 is a good army and I am sure it will cause a lot of problems in this division. Thanks for the game.

Weekly round-up
A fairly sedate start in Late Antiquity. No results yet in Division A and just 1 in Division B. SLancaster (Roman) has taken an early lead in Division C but in Division D Warg1 (Scots-Irish) has made a whirlwind start winning his first 5 matches already! Will anyone be able to stop him winning automatic promotion? In Division E there have been wins for Barrold713 (Palmyran), Morat (Lombard) and Rob123 (Germanic Horse Tribes) and TomoeGozen (Soissons) has taken an early lead in Division F with 2 wins.

Unbeaten runs of 3 matches or more
Warg1 (Division D) - 5 matches

Match completion rate (45 matches in total to be played in each division)
Division A - 0 out of 45 matches completed
Division B - 1 out of 45 matches completed
Division C - 2 out of 45 matches completed
Division D - 5 out of 45 matches completed
Division E - 3 out of 45 matches completed
Division F - 3 out of 45 matches completed

Player of the Week: Warg1 (Division D) with 5 straight wins. :D

Division E

Captain Savage (Visigoths) defeated Tratmot (Armenians) 41-13

The swarm of Visigoth and byzantine allied lancers managed to see off the Armenian armoured archers and cataphracts before the inevitable collapse of the warbands.

The Visigoths have reasonable cavalry but a pretty hopeless infantry line up. I can see why no one else chooses them now. Still its all a learning experience.

Lesson 1 - do not choose the Visigoths again. Unless you are a much better player of course.

Division E for Excellence

Barrold713 (Palmryan) defeats Kerait (Romans) 66-41

A lively fight where my medium foot could secure rough terrain and my legions and cataphracts held out against the Roman assault.

Good game

Division F

wellsonian (Roman w/ Franks) defeats Angel42052 (ancient British) 46-13

Thanks to Angel for the fun and well played game. Light chariots were flying everywhere, but in the end Roman Armor and Training decided it in melee.
