Division C
Bluefin (Kappadokian) defeated MikeMarchant (Seleucid with Jewish Ally) 43-13.
With "O Fortuna" playing as a backdrop, the inspired Team Kappa charged like a pack of wild chihuahuas toward the Seleucid army without worry, overwhelming their opponentswith its large number of medium troops. Taking advantage of some early skirmishes that went it's way (except for that Marsh Man), Team Kappa was able to claim victory.
Thanks for the game -- we always seem to have some pretty good match-ups!

Division C
Bluefin (Kappadokian) defeated Tresantes (Pyrrhic) 61-55.
Not sure how this came about as Team Kappa spent most of the time expecting those pike and pachyderm to run over it's medium troops. But hope grew as it's cavalry got some big breaks and then held on for the win.
Thanks for the game -- fun battle!

Division D
rs2excelsior (Roman) beat bomber23 (Syracusan) 45-16
The field was fairly open, which favored the Roman legions. A single unit of Thureophoroi posted on rough ground on a hilltop and the Roman cavalry screened the right flank, while the main body crashed into the Syracusan right. Despite the disappointing performance of the detachment of elephants--fragmented almost immediately by arrow fire and routed by light cavalry, no less--the legions went to work, shattering the hoplites opposite them. The Roman right flank was under serious pressure, but the legions wheeled about and began surrounding the Syracusan hoplites and phalanxes in the center. Assaulted in the flanks, a Syracusan general fell while trying to re-form his fragmented phalanx, which caused the entire formation to break, resulting in a general collapse of the Syracusan army.
A screenshot of the final turn of the game, with the legions preparing to continue their assault along the Syracusan line.
Good game bomber, very enjoyable.

Division A
SnuggleBunnies (Anglo-Saxon) defeats NikiforosFokas (Byzantine) 66-33
The Imperial Varangian Guard and Klibanophoroi were unstoppable, inflicting terrible losses on the Saxon shieldwalls even when outflanked. The rest of the Byzantine army, however, couldn't stand up to the storm of spears in close combat, and were surrounded and destroyed.

General Shapur - Arab (Conquest) 629-637 AD defeats IMC - Viking 780-899 AD with Frankish ally 62:53
Another see-sawing battle helped in no small part by some useful rallies and the survival of a few lancer units to pick of viking rallies. I'm not doing so well with these guys, so at the expense of IMC, it was a morale booster for me. GG.

Division D
MikeMarchant (Ghaznavid 962-1187 CE - Allies: Turkish) defeated KiFi (Sassanid Persian 591-628 AD) - 47/9
An entirely mounted army was fielded by the Ghaznavids, while the Sassanids fielded an evenly balanced army of mounted and foot. The field was clear and open, which suited the mounted well, but to the right of the Ghaznavid centre, ahead of the deployments area, was a pond. The Sassanid infantry were arrayed to the left of this pond, from the Ghaznavid point of view, while the Sassandid cavalry was deployed on the shorter, right side.
Originally eployed dead centre, the Ghazanvids moved switly to right to engage the Sassanid cavalry, sending a very small force of Turkish cavalry wide to the left flank as a small irritation. As fast as the Sassanid infantry tried to shift to their left, my mounted struck fast, Ghilman and elephants and light horse went in without fear, causing chaos. Cataphracts were taken easily by a combination of elephants and flank attacks, the rest of the Sassanoid cavarly was overwhelmed, encirceld and destroyed. Even the Turks on the other side of the field made mincemeat of the archers sent to face them.
The battle was over before the infantry arrived.
This was one of those strange battles where, despite having a large army, perfectly intact and unscathed, Kifi had lost enough troops to lose the game. If the battle had been able to continue for a few more turns I have no doubt the scores would have looked very different.
Bad luck, Kifi, and thanks for a great game.
Best Wishes
Mike

Thanks, Bluefin, it was a great game to add to our catalogue. I think, fearing your vastly superior numbers and all the rough terrain on the field, I was too passive. To try to sit in a defensive formation, relying on 'enclosures' to protect me was probably not the wisest of strategies, unlike your inspiring "Charge!"Bluefin wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 10:59 pm Division C
