IMC (Viking) with a mutual defeat vs youngr (Anglo-Danish) 62-60

Thanks for an exhausting game. Well played Sir

I've now finished 4 games with the Anglo-Danes with 2 mutual breaks, 1 draw and 1 loss (which I think I could have won but for very disproportional luck at key moments). I've scored over 50 points in all games. Is this a record?!!

Cheers

A battle decided by the terrain - lots of rough, difficult slopes, and enclosures allowed my infantry to maneuver in the face of enemy cavalry and elephants.

1) Basically, i underestimated my opponent and did many mistakes in the battle line. Great victory for the Indo-Greek army.

2) I noticed something weird in the battle. Indian Archers with no impact capabilities attacked from rear against my pike unit (already in melee). That added +200 PoA to the archers. The result was the pikes to be disrupted, fragmented and broken in the same turn. 791/931 men withdrew from the battlefield. Not even the half men.
Why archers obtained suddenly impact capabilities?

rs2excelsior (Roman) beat GeneralKostas (Lysmachid) 54-29.

After suffering defeats in Carthage and Thrace, the legion was eager to redeem itself against Alexander's successor. Initially, the Romans deployed in a steep, narrow valley, with medium infantry covering the rough hilltops on either side. The Lysmachid phalanx deployed on a hilltop just outside of the range of Roman artillery, with their own medium foot and hoplites in the open ground to their right. As the Lysmachids showed no interest in advancing from their position after a couple of turns, the Romans made the first move and advanced obliquely to the left, hoping to engage and destroy the lighter enemy forces. The Romans pushed the Lysmachid left back, and the phalanx finally advanced off of the hilltop, harassed by Roman skirmishers.

The Roman and Lysmachid cavalry forces each made a wide flanking maneuver to the right. The Roman push was blocked by Thracian infantry in rough terrain. The Lysmachid horse were out of the fight for a while, but they sent off the Roman artillery and turned towards the legionnaires, now engaged to the front and flank. Despite being flank charged by Lysmachid lancers, the legions caught in the pincer fought like lions, refusing to budge even though outnumbered and outflanked. Though they eventually gave way, they bought time for the Romans to see off the other Lysmachid infantry, allow Roman troops to flank charge and break one of the phalanxes, and edge out enough of a lead to swing a Roman victory. The Legate is considering awards for many of the centurions and legionnaires of those cohorts.

The fight was decided by a confused scuffle right in the middle, with both sides getting outflanked. Despite a well-executed cavalry flanking maneuver, the Romans proved exceptionally resilient, surprising both of us in the amount of punishment they took without yielding. Well played to General Kostas, bad luck on your part (or good luck on mine) tipped this one. GG.

in a brutal slugging match where my massed archers managed to do enough damage to the Roman cav that my superior legionnaires held the center and my cataphracts held the flanks. It was costly but eventually broke enough points to pull out a squeaker.

The archers were massed archers not skirmishers.. like infantry. It was a rear charge, too.
