Geffalrus (Poles) defeated IMC (Vikings and Franks) 42-8

A rematch from last season, the Poles and the Vikings faced each other once more on an open field. Military reforms had provided the Poles with a powerful force of dismounted noble riders and cheap mounted grooms, while the Viking alliance with the Franks gained them a supply of veteran horse to counter the Polish cavalry. With a wide open plain on the coast to fight on, the Vikings brought a mass of Huscarls and lancers, while the Poles brought a large mounted contingent, the new model spears, and a bunch of raw levies. The Huscarls headed straight for the juicy levies, while the Polish cavalry rode wide around the Viking right flank as it advanced. Frankish horsemen were dispatched to cover the flank, but were shot up and overwhelmed by the Polish cavalry and foot skirmishers. Meanwhile, the Polish right wing infantry attacked the Vikings at a gap in their formation and snuck some cavalry through to start hitting the Viking shield wall from behind. The Poles were able to rout just enough Vikings to end the battle before the Huscarls could smash through the furiously back-pedaling levy spears in the Polish center.

Good game to IMC.

The decisive assault by the Polish right wing finds some gaps in the Viking line and get to work flanking shieldwalls and huscarls.

MorkinTheFree (Pontic) remains anchored at the foot of the table despite getting his first win of the season. herm (Roman) has moved to the top of Division B despite suffering his first defeat in his seventh match. His closest challenger is Morbio (also Roman) who has 4 wins from 5 matches. At the bottom Najanaja (Pontic), oscarius (Thracian Hellenistic) and Ulysisgrunt (Jewish) desperately need points now to avoid the drop. Karvon (Sarmatian) has moved up into second place in Division C to challenge current leader edb1815 (Thracian Hellenistic) but the main threat is likely to come from fikabo (Jewish) who has 3 wins from 3 starts. Schweetness101 (Hannibal in Africa) is closer to winning Division D in his first season in the FOG2DL after Questar17 (Carthaginian) narrowly lost a second match in 5 starts. Questar17 can still get to 29 points if he wins his last 4 matches without dropping a point, but Schweetness101 just needs a scoring draw in his last match against cromlechi (Egyptian) to secure automatic promotion. SLancaster (Indo-Greek) can reach 28 points if he wins his last match but cannot now overtake Schweetness101 as he was defeated in their match together.

Hats off to nyczar (Ancient British) this week who managed to beat dkalenda (Palmyran) to delay his almost inevitable triumph in Division A. It still remains mathematically possible for both Nosy_Rat (Hunnic) and nyczar to overtake dkalenda if they secure 4 point maximums in their remaining matches and dkalenda loses his final match to ninth placed harveylh (Roman). XLegione (Arab City) strengthened his grip on Division B with his seventh straight win while paulmcneil (Ancient British) moved into second place with his fourth win in 5 starts. Nothing is much clearer in a very tight Division C where it seems everyone is capable of beating everyone else. There has been lots of action in Division D where MikeMarchant (Ancient British) is beginning to establish a formidable position at the top after being unbeaten in his first 6 matches. Ulysisgrunt (Kingdom of Soissons) looks to be his biggest danger and is just 3 points behind despite losing 2 matches already this season.
