A very hard fought relegation dogfight that could have gone either way but was swung by the Byzantine Cavalry at the death.

Was enjoyable game starting from skirmishing on my right flank and cavalry close combats on my left maintaining the centre of both armies on a big distance.
I was loosing cavalry combats so decided to move my outnumbered spearmen in the centre vs the infantry+ 2 heavy artillery of lunestar trying to create some advantages by my archers+ numerical superiority of my spearmen along the edges of the Byzantine centre. Once the close combat phase of the centre started, my pictish spearmen performed solidly vs skoutatoi, varangians & shieldwall breaking per 3-4 stacks per one turn. So the result of the battle was done on last 2 turns of the game actually.

Impressive massacre of very similar armies. I started with winning the combats on my left flank very soon creating oportunities for flanking. Meanwhile the cavalty fights on my right flank (i was passive and ignoring impact as long as possible as Rus moved a lot of horse archers+ shieldwall there) and infantry combats in the centre were started much later. Having so much opportunities for scoring on my right, i was sure that the battle will be won very soon but Rus had other opinion.. After scattering of my cavalry on my right flank, gamercb started to envelope my centre from there. So last turns were interesting for both of us, when infantries from my left flank was moving to centre of the battlefield to meet there RUS infantry of its left flank moving to the centre. Despite of some rallying events in the opponent army + mass morale drop in my army by the general death i achieved the victory starting to hunt for weakened stacks of Rus for autobreaking.

GG to gamercb, i'm sure that both of us enjoyed it despite of the result
