Re: Recruiting new players to the FOG2DL . . .
Thanks very much to players who are helping to build the FOG2DL beyond this season. The invitation list for Season 8 is growing nicely.

Division C
MikeMarchant (Arab Bedouin (300-636 CE)) defeated rs2excelsior (Palmyran 258-273AD): 54/16
Really bad luck to a very sporting opponent. rs2excelsior did nothing wrong in this battle, he just suffered from ridiculously savage lancers who just wouldn't stop charging.
It is really scary what a bunch of overzealous horsemen with pointy sticks can to do an orderly line, when they give up a pursuit and decide to charge into the flank and rear of an army.
Best Wishes
Mike

phoyle3290 - Macedonian 320-261BC defeats lydianed - Roman 219-200BC with Greek allies 227-146BC - 53 - 28
I had three routed units rally right after my opponent's turn to give me the win. This was a great battle that teetered back and forth the entire match. We were within 10 points of one another the entire match until that last "half-turn."
Thanks for the game. I wish we could have had a better finish to this battle!

Re: Geffalrus has won Classical Antiquity Division A!
Doesn't get much closer than that, I guess. XD
Thanks to everyone for the excellent matches, and thanks to Pete for the impeccably smooth running of the tournament as always. I look forward to seeing you all next season. In the meantime, I hope everyone stays safe and sane in the strange times we live in.

Questar17 - Gepid 493-567AD with Germanic/Gothic Foot Tribes allies 260-599AD beats desertedfox - Roman 24BC–196AD Jewish allies 64 BC-6AD 63:53
In a very woody terrain despite of loosing skirmisher stage, my outnumbered cavalry performed brilliantly making a flanking maneover on the frontal legions/ warbands clash.
At the final stage of the battle skilly desertedfox using his fierce legions made a score 47:47. However using a combination of warbands/ lancers i got the victory outflanking his standalone infantry troops and breaking his fragmented cavalry.
Thx for the game to you, i assume very enjoyable battle for both of us

Division C
rs2excelsior (Pontic 110-85BC) draws with Garokan (Indian 500BC-319AD) 46-44
The Indian army deployed near their map edge with a staggering number of elephants, bowmen in the trees, and light and heavy artillery covering their line. The Pontic army, unwilling to advance their pikes into a rain of artillery fire only to have to assault into woods, formed a line with their heavy infantry on the left, their thureophoroi on the rough ground to the right, the cavalry to the left of the main infantry line, and the skirmishers formed up ahead just outside of artillery range. Both armies sat there like this for several turns, neither willing to give up their positions. Pontic light cavalry made the first moves, advancing to harrass some of the exposed Indian units and generally getting the worse end of the arrow exchange. When the Indian elephants and bows began advancing from the treeline, the Pontic army moved up to meet them.
The pikes and imitation legions met the masses of Indian elephants, tying down most of them and eventually chain-breaking several. While the Pontic cavalry chased their Indian counterparts around the map and got shot up and the right flank mediums were beginning to be overwhelmed by numbers, the center wheeled out to assist the right flank, but pikes are notoriously slow to change directions. Several lucky rallies helped bring the Indian routed % back down (one turn there were FIVE Indian units that rallied from broken or fragmented), and several exposed units on the Pontic right flank collapsed after holding up for rather longer than I expected, in some cases. In the end, the late start meant that night fell over the chaotic field, with isolated Pontic and Indian units scattered all over. The Pontic army held the field of battle in the morning, but in the end it couldn't really be called anything other than a draw.
The field at nightfall: Good game to my opponent. This is my first draw in the DL, and I think it was deserved--both armies fought hard to the end. This wraps up my CA matches (there's another result my opponent hasn't posted yet...), thanks to all my opponents and I'll see you next season!

Calling Hyde77 . . .
Are you still playing? There are several challenges waiting for you. If you just disappear without completing your matches you will not be able to play in Season 8. I operate a "yellow card, red card system" for players who do this.

Macedonczyk (Jewish) beats baldrick52 (Pictish) 49:13
I attacked uphill too early. I thought my Zealots couldn't withstand this attack, but a little lucky and I could help the other units with flank attacks.

Division C
MikeMarchant (Andalusian 756-1049 AD with Navarrese allies 778-899AD) defeated remf220 (Norman 923-1040AD): 61/51
A really brusing encounter that went right down to the wire. From the first sound of the drums I thought I was going to lose this one. Superior armoured Norman lancers and a lot of Superior armoured heavy foot against my Navarrese rabble didn't look like a very even contest. And so I was really, really cautious and not my normal charge in a the earliset opportunityl. My cavalry on my left flank did me proud (although slowly) holding off the Norman lancers. My cavarly on my right flank, trying to hide in a forest did me proud a little faster against more Norman lancers.
My line, in the centre, collasped as soon as the Norman infantry engaged, with just the odd isolated unit holding our for a while (as those irritating fragmented units can sometimes do). Having eventually taken the flanks and with my cavarly doing their berserk charging everything in the flanks and rear routine, we somehow (mostly with the aid of the dice gods - far too much RNG in this game) tipped the scales in our favour. A nerve racking game where the result was never a certainty, even at the end.
Bad luck, remf220.
Best Wishes
Mike

Re: Calling Hyde77 . . .
If I have not heard from Hyde77 by the end of tomorrow (April 6th), his remaining matches will be subject to adjudication. I have opponents contacting me wanting to start their matches and it is not fair on them to keep them waiting about any longer.
