We can sort that out next week. This thread is for anyone who has not played in the FOG2DL before, so I know that they want to play.

From the same nation? Yes is the answer. No individual army (with its own specific dates) should be appearing anywhere twice in the tournament though. Please see my reply in the other thread . . .

Does this apply across Era's as well as within an Era? If I play as Germans for Classical Antiquity in October, am I ineligible to play Germans for Early Middle Ages in February?

Just within the era to start with in Season 9 and we will see how it goes. I am not going to spend hours cross-referencing everyone's choices. The purpose of the rule change is to encourage players to choose different armies from season to season. As the restriction only applies to the next season then it can be implemented in its broadest sense within each section. There are going to be all sorts of queries that players can come up with if they want to be picky about the new rule, so I would just ask players to use their commonsense when making their choices. If you have picked, say, a Roman army with Jewish allies in Classical Antiquity in one season, then just avoid those two armies in Classical Antiquity the following season.

Classical Antiquity

Instructions

Here is the full army list for the Classical Antiquity league section. There are over 100 armies available to choose from and, initially, players are required to choose 4 of them from different nations (so not three Carthaginian armies and one Seleucid army, for example). You may choose to use one type of ally with your army which must be nominated now. Notice also the regulation regarding the “Diadochi nation” of primarily pike armies at the bottom of the army list (adjusted slightly for Season 9). Please post your army selections in your order of preference in this thread.

Important: new this season!
You cannot pick your 4 armies or their allies from nations that you used in your last season in this section as either an army or as an ally.

Note: armies are all 1600 points for this section.

Once players have been organised into divisions of 10 based on their playing experience and ability, they will then be allocated one of their four choices. The allocation process will give preference to the lowest rated players (see FOG2DL ratings) in each division. Only very occasionally might a player be asked to make another selection at this stage.

Players will need to have both the base game and the Immortal Fire DLC to enter this section of the tournament.

Please be sure to familiarise yourself with both the Rules of Competition and the Players' Guide.

Instructions

Here is the full army list for the Early Middle Ages league section. There are over 100 armies available to choose from and, initially, players are required to choose 4 of them (from different nations, so not three Byzantine armies and one Gepid army, for example). You may choose to use one type of ally with your army which must be nominated now. Please post your army selections in your order of preference in this thread.

Please note: this section has been chosen for trialing a new system of for deciding which size of battle will be fought each time. Players are asked to indicate a preference for either 1200pts or 1600pts. If both players in a match have indicated the same size then the battle will be played at that size. If the players have indicated preferences for different sizes then the default size of battle for this section, which is 1200pts, will be used. Players who fail to indicate a preference will be entered as preferring 1200pt battles.

Important: new this season!

Biblical

Instructions

This is the first season of a revamped Biblical section. The old divisions of ten players has been replaced by smaller six player divisions, where each player will play five historically themed “mirror matches” against the other players in their division. The TT Mod will no longer be used. There will be a maximum of six divisions in this section and a full fixture list will be posted shortly before the tournament opens. Promotion and relegation will still apply.

In future seasons players may be offered the opportunity to select their own armies in the usual way.

Here are the five historical match-ups that will be used in Season 9 . . .

Egyptian 664-571BC v Kushite 727-656BC (Invasion of Lower Egypt 664BC)
Median 836-627BC v Skythian 750-551BC (Skythian invasion 653BC)
Greek 680-461BC v Lydian 687-551BC (Campaign 615BC)
Assyrian 681-609BC v Babylonian 626-539BC with Median allies (Fall of Assyria 613BC)
Indian 500BC-319AD v Persian 545-481BC (Persian invasion 518-516BC)

Please note: armies are 1200 points for this section.

Players will need to have the base game, the Immortal Fire and the Rise of Persia DLC's.

Themed Event

Instructions
This section will have a hoplite theme for Season 9.

Matches in this section are played to a tighter schedule and must be prioritised above matches from other sections. A full schedule of matches will be published before the tournament opens on October 1st. Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread. The group stage matches will be completed in the first 5 weeks of the competition, the knock-out matches will be allowed around 18 days for completion in the second half of the season. Unfinished matches will be subject to adjudication.

As usual,12 players will constitute a pool, which will be divided into 4 qualifying groups of 3 players. At the group stage players will play each other in paired games (mirror matches) so the total of individual battles played by each player will be 4. Only the winner of each group will proceed to the knock-out stage, which will consist of semi-finals and final (again using paired games).

Where players finish with the same number of points at the end of the group stage, the points aggregate from the matches between those players will be used to decide the final places in the group table. If this does not separate the players then lots will be drawn to determine which player proceeds to the next stage of the competition.

New players to the FOG2DL will not be initially eligible for this section (but this may change later depending on recruitment numbers).

Note: armies are all 1600 points for this section.
