Division A
youngr (Dacians) defeated harveylh (Romans) 62-38
Much to my amazement the Dacians proved very lucky and resilient in this game whereas the Romans failed to make the major breakthough they deserved. I doubt my poor army choice will achieve much else in this tournament!
Cheers

Division D
rs2excelsior (Byzantines) beat Bluefin (Alan) 48-21
A map that wasn't particularly suited to the cavalry armies which met there, with the center dominated by a deep stream flanked by hills, the left a river and a marsh, and forests between the deployment area and the bit of open ground on the right flank. With a direct assault across the stream looking suicidal for either side, the Byzantine infantry and a force of Alan lancers spent most of the battle eyeing each other from the opposite hills, while the Byzantine horse archers pressed up the marsh on the left flank backed by a small group of lancers, and the main body of Byzantine heavy cavalry made a sweeping right movement through the forest. Initial clashes took place on the left, where the Alans looked to have the upper hand at first. The Byzantine horsemen took casualties, but the lancers managed to get engaged and that area bogged down into a bloody melee. On the right flank, the main force of Byzantine lancers managed to force a crossing against the Alan horse archers sent to stop them, despite the stream, and after a brief pursuit re-formed to threaten the Alan center. A portion of the Byzantine infantry committed itself to the battle on the left, helping to stabilize the situation there, and eventually Alan resistance on that flank began to falter as well. As Byzantine lancers wheeled to strike the Alan center, the main body of infantry crossed the stream, pinning them between the two forces. With the Byzantines getting ready to mop up the last of the resistance on their left flank and the remaining Alan forces caught between a hammer and an anvil, the nomads took to flight.
Good game, Bluefin, thoroughly enjoyable. If you'd had better luck in that scrap by the river and you might've been the one making this report.

Division B
Nijis (Byzantine 493-550 AD) defeats Cunningcairn (Bosporan 11 BC-375 AD with Roman 24 BC–196 AD ally), 64 to 29.
Two cavalry-heavy armies converged on a hill that dominated the middle of the map. The result was a cat fight in a phone booth, a chaos of evasions, pursuits, and chain-breaks that ripped up the elite troops of both sides.

oscarius (Roman) beat Trogilus (Dacian) 58 - 31. A straight-forward fight on flat ground that saw the combined legionaries and cataphracts slowly gain the upper hand despite a shaky start. Thanks for the match

Division B
devoncop (Moorish 350AD) drew with NikiforosFokas (Sassanid 477)........41-51
(Moorish losses being 51)
A complex 3D chess game that only the destruction of most of the ferociously effective Sassanid Cavalry prevented from being a quick Sassanid win.
Thanks to my opponent.

Division A
SnuggleBunnies (Jewish Revolt 66-135) draws with harveylh (Roman 197-284) 5-5
The Rebels feared to come down from a hill topped with some rough ground to face Legionaries and cavalry in the open. The Romans feared to advance up said hill. After half a day ineffectually pelting each other with rocks and pointy sticks, the two armies called it a day.

Division A
SnuggleBunnies (Jewish Revolt 66-135) defeats youngr (Dacian (Carpi) 107-380) 45-11
The Dacians moved their infantry host of Warbands and Falxmen to a great hill to the West, as their cavalry ranged behind the Jewish army. The Jews, with their great mass of skirmishers, moved forward. Some skirmishers supported by Irregular Foot held off or delayed the Dacian cavalry. The rest of the skirmishers overcame their Dacian counterparts. The Dacians, faced with the choice of either huddling behind their shields, or, in the case of the shirtless Falxmen, praying, and getting shot at, or charging, elected to charge. With their greater maneuverability, the Jewish infantry gradually outflanked the Dacian line, and made local flank attacks, to win a victory.
