Div b

Nijis (Byzantine 493-550 AD) defeats Cunningcairn (Bosporan 11 BC-375 AD with Roman 24 BC–196 AD ally), 64 to 29.

Two cavalry-heavy armies converged on a hill that dominated the middle of the map. The result was a cat fight in a phone booth, a chaos of evasions, pursuits, and chain-breaks that ripped up the elite troops of both sides.
LOL great battle description! It explains it perfectly.

Garokan has been in contact and he is interested in the vacancy in Early Middle Ages Division D. I will ascertain which army that he wants to use in the next day or so.

There is once again a vacancy in Biblical Division B. It would suit a new player to the tournament or someone with a current FOG2DL rating of 4.00 or under. If you are interested please post your name in this thread and choose just one army from the list below. Allies are permitted. Armies will be at 1600 points for this section.

Division A

SnuggleBunnies (Jewish Revolt 66-135) defeats youngr (Dacian (Carpi) 107-380) 45-11

The Dacians moved their infantry host of Warbands and Falxmen to a great hill to the West, as their cavalry ranged behind the Jewish army. The Jews, with their great mass of skirmishers, moved forward. Some skirmishers supported by Irregular Foot held off or delayed the Dacian cavalry. The rest of the skirmishers overcame their Dacian counterparts. The Dacians, faced with the choice of either huddling behind their shields, or, in the case of the shirtless Falxmen, praying, and getting shot at, or charging, elected to charge. With their greater maneuverability, the Jewish infantry gradually outflanked the Dacian line, and made local flank attacks, to win a victory.

GG
The Dacians are truly an awful army and a big mistake in my choice. It's not big and have very few troop types. It isn't helped by me making mistakes either  I'll be amazed if I don't come bottom of the pile this season.

Good game
Piuts us all on 8pts but not enough battle points difference for me after my abject Generalship of the Di.
Think it makes nyczar and Cunningcairn +7 each and me -14 which has a nice symmetry.
Good luck to nyczar and Cunningcairn in the next round and thanks for the games.
I am not one for being picky, but given how close things are, important to amend the reported score to 58-29. Triarii, please take a look and confirm this.

Division A

SnuggleBunnies (Carthaginian (Hannibal in Africa) (5% routed) draws with Cunningcairn (Antigonid) (2% routed)

The Carthaginians occupied some good rough ground. They attempted to gain skirmish superiority but were badly thrashed. The Antigonids stayed deployed in open ground with their phalanxes covered by Heavy Artillery, limiting the ability of the Carthaginian elephants to advance. With neither side willing to attack, both armies called it a day.
Geffalrus

And yes, neither side was overly interested in venturing into the other's prepared ground. Plus, we spent so long skirmishing that there's not enough time left to really make a fancy plan to change the situation.

Division A

sunnyboy (Lydian) beat youngr (Median) 60-40

A tough opponent with difficult army to come to grips with. The Lydian hoplites plodded across the map after swarms of horse archers, somehow managing to catch up with enough of them to hit the 60% mark.

Thanks for the game Richard, those cohesion tests didn't do you any favours.
Well played. 'Twas a fun game

Tomorrow is the day for the first Time Control check. Players are required to have completed one match in each section that they have entered. There are a number of exemptions including players who have also entered the Themed Event (these matches take priority) and those who have joined the tournament after it started as reserves. I will be sending PM's today and I will also be checking the in-game multi-player lobby to identify challenges that may have been missed in the early season rush.

I have just done my preliminary check and all divisions and groups in Classical Antiquity, Early Middle Ages, Biblical and the Themed Event have already passed the Time Control check. There are a few players who have not registered a result in these sections but they either have exemptions (entered Themed Event or joined recently as a reserve) or have notified me that they would be away at the start of the tournament (cromlechi). So I will just be checking Late Antiquity more thoroughly where there are 10 players yet to register a result although 5 of them also have exemptions. So, overall, things are looking very good indeed. :D

I have completed the multi-player lobby check (up to and including challenges posted on 14th October) and I have found nine potentially missed challenges. I have sent PM's to the players involved asking them to start the match as soon as they have a free space. Again, the situation is not too bad at all really. :D

An exciting game that went to and fro with very little left fighting at the end

Cheers

gamercb ( Rus 960-1053 AD) beat MikeMarchant (Ghaznavid 962-1187 AD with Turkish ally) 51-24

An interesting battle with Russian infantry chasing the Elephants and cavalry of the Ghaznavid and Turks. Thanks for the game Mike, very enjoyable for me.
Wherever we went they kept chasing us. We were so scared. And then, when they caught us... I can't say, there might be children reading. Those poor elephants.

Great game, Colin, always a pleasure. Thanks.

Best Wishes

Mike
