Ancient Spanish Superior Scutarii

Post by Vespasian28 »

Under V2 you can upgrade up to a third of your Scutarii or Heavy Caetrati to Superior. An ordinary Spanish(Iberian) army can field up to 24 Celtiberian Scutarii but as they are listed as "Mercenary Celtiberians" does this mean they are not counted as Scutarii for the purposes of working out a third of the total number of Scutarii fielded in your army?

I don't really know this list, but in my experience, the army lists are very specific and should be taken literally.

So when Appendix 9 states 'Scutarii or heavy caetrati' I don't believe this includes 'Mercenary Celtiberians'. Otherwise it would have read 'Scutarii, heavy caetrati or Mercenary Celtiberians'.

As ever, I'm sure others will disagree. :)

No, I think you are right Pete. I suspected as much but just wanted to check.
