Needs and Imports

Post by uneducated »

Think of Britain and its lack of Purple.

It would be wonderful to have Purple available in a Region in Britain, but how would it ever get there? If you built a structure that "Needs" Purple, then it would obviously start arriving, but how? It would be a) out of Trade Range and b) highly expensive to import.

If you did endure the cost of constructing that structure which required Purple, how would you then be able to benefit?

Somehow, Purple would be "present" in that Region. Could you then have it as an export from that area? Would it then become a commodity that was available there, and in Trade Range? Could you then build an industry around it?

you've asked this before, the answer remains No. You don't retrade goods they exist in a region, are traded to one or more regions. If they are in a region (either way) they can be claimed as a bonus good by a building in adjoining region.

Section 6.1 of the manual and the supporting notes.

The only way to get a good like that out of area is to produce it with one of the Emporiums, in this case the Purple Emporium.

In this case, the only benefit you get is the building's direct effect. The trade good won't actually be imported into the region and won't count as available to other buildings.
