Missing trade Good while it is in range

Post by Culthrasa » Sat Jan 11, 2020 1:38 am

Hey...

think i found a bug... one of my provinces doesn't want to trade (it needs Iron). While Iron is in range (Sinai province). The Iron there is being traded 19 times, so it is not on that end... My trade range is so large it is in range (and the Sinai region is glowing that it is in range.
Only thing that i can think of it that it tries to reach the province by water and fails perhaps? (The other iron is just out of range at range 9 (region has trade range 8 )

Might be worth the look, if only for this powerful Judea setup!
Please send the saved game to support@slitherine.co.uk, reference this thread and say that's for Pocus, thanks.

How to see what is and what is not in "range" though? The trade pane says my range is 3 and says something like "things in range are shown in yellow" but I have no idea what that means.

The region you can trade with slowly pulse white-ish on screen. In your example the west coast of greece, the region with honey is within trade range, the regions above it with the metal deposits (iron/copper/silver) aren't.
In your screenshot your trade range is 5. So a total of 5 "hops" away... this includes sea regions if you have a harbor. Your trade acumen is 3 which gives the likelihood someone (including your own regions) will chose your goods over other available goods... In your screenshot the region Campania is importing it's cattle from Epirus (over for example the cattle in the region next door.... Guess Greek cows taste better then italian cows :) )

Thx! Interestingly, the reason I took that screen cap is that I was miffed that Campania was trading cattle with the Greeks instead of with Tiberus. However on the very next turn, they stopped trading cattle with Greece (and also stopped trading Hemp with Macedonia) and switched to local (Tiberus and Rome IIRC).

Yep! Now that I know what I'm looking for I can make out the trade range quite nicely. Not the scheme I would've chosen but it works. Seems to me that some better alternatives would have been: (a) when in trade overlay, every region that is NOT in trade range, gets a light hatching on the margins of the region boundary (depending on how the map is rendered, it could conceivably even by 'drawn' with an algorithm instead of by hand); (b) Every region in range gets a tick mark of some sort (a moderate sized green check mark or [to keep it more aesthetically historical] it could be a iron age looking customs/import stamp looking graphic). There are quite a few green nations on the map but it seems like the palette for colors in the trade overlay are bit more limited, so it should be possible to pick a color that will contrast sufficiently with most or all the possible colors in the trade overlay. If the stamp/tick were also pulsing like the oversaturation effect in the present design that might make it almost unmistakable.

On the other hand, maybe I'm the only user who was ever baffled by the current design! :P

Now that you said it...
If the not-in-range provinces would get lighter then one could see the province currently chosen better. That would work much better indeed.
