Australian Championship - Cancon 2011 (January)

Post by muz177 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 10:01 am

I thought I would post the initial details for Cancon 2011, in case you want to
start preparing early.

When: Saturday 22 January 2011 to Monday 24th January 2011
Where: Exhibition Park In Canberra (EPIC)Flemington Road, Mitchell ACT

Details:
Scale: 15mm
Points: No more than 800 points
Time period: 3000 BC - 1500 AD
Sub-categories: None
Number of games: 6 (2 games per day)
Figure scale: All figures are to be based for 15mm rules. Base depths of 20mm
for medium foot and 15mm for heavy foot will not be enforced, but players are
required to tell their opponent if the troops are medium foot or heavy foot at
setup.

All figures must be appropriately based, painted and accurately depict the
troops they represent.

Submitting Army Lists
Army lists must be submitted in a legible format, clearly identifying all
options relevant to the composition of your army.
Your army list must be submitted with the following;
(1) Complete summary of all troop types using correct descriptions, individual
points values and an overall summation of points that does not exceed 800
points.
(2) Also include the number of battlegroups and their order of deployment.

Lists failing to provide the above details will be returned for resubmission.
Once an army list has been submitted it may not be changed or altered other than
to correct any errors discovered by the event organisers.

More details will come out over time.

Cancon 2011 - prize

Post by muz177 » Sun Oct 31, 2010 9:45 am

I have almost finished painting the first prize for Cancon - it is a 90mm Poste Militaire Timurid emir - has come up well and I'll try and post some photos.

2nd place is a painted 70-mm Poste Militaire Mongol commander.

Still hopeful of some prizes from our friends at Slitherine.

Electronic registration should be available soon - get them in.

We want this competition to be a success; it will not be allow to crash and burn for us to be left without even the Ashes!

Late arrivals will be penalised. Players will not allow players to Swann around or to Trott out the old excuses! You have been giving Prior knowledge!

The results will be fair as nobody will Cook the books!

We must apologise for the piss poor Beer this summer!

Cancon results

Post by muz177 » Tue Jan 25, 2011 8:20 am

Well, run and won for another year. The full results will be posted shortly but
in summary

1st place - Shaun Drummond - Catalan Company
2nd place - Alex Inglis - Santa Hermandad
3rd place - Paul Rattray - Late Ottoman Turk

The final results at the end of 3 days and 6 games were close - to illustrate - Paul
Rattray and I were playing each other in game 6 and either could have grabbed
3rd with a good result. I ended up 13th!

A few people have raised the issue that the comp is played quite seriously, with
some players wanting to keep to a close and strict interpretation of the rules -
taking away the enjoyment of players seeking a less competitive outlook. This
is something we need to address, else players will be discouraged from
attending.

Thanks all who attended and played.

Any specifics you'd like to share with the forum?

I believe somebody withdrew from the competition because they felt it was too intense/competitive - they weren't enjoying it.
