Currently unplayable (SOLVED)

Post by Vanha » Sat Mar 21, 2020 11:18 am

Okay so let's start from the beginning...

- At first had the VCRUNTIME140_1.dll error, fixed it by installing VC_redist.x64.exe and VC_redist.x86.exe
- Next hurdle to overcome was the game freezing after selecting either Poland south or north, fixed it by disabling fullscreen optimizations from both the launcher and PanzerCorps2.exe

CPU, GPU and memory usage remain high at times, but at least got to play some missions.

But now I am out of ideas, the game freezes after tutorial mission 4/6, power usage spikes very high. The problem is infinitely repeatable.

Win10, i5 3570K, 16GB Dual-Channel DDR3 799MHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti

i can try and help you if you help yourself and provide some more details, welcome to the forum

so far the temps and GPU usage can be managed, but yes not ideal for everyone, seems to be either a card and driver and engine issue, which will get fixed and sorted as soon as enough information on what is causing it, as not everyone gets it either, lower the details and run in windows mode for me took 20%+ of the overheads of my 6 year old VGA test card and rig, so now playable in all missions so far with no issues with temps etc, still very low on CPU and memory then again i run next to nothing in the background either, and it's a clean install of windows 10, not a upgrade etc

Lowering settings between high and low had no effect, was the first thing I tried among things like turning weather effects off, trying some older Nvidia drivers and turning internet security suite off. High GPU usage freezes my game sometimes, high power usage after tutorial mission 4/6 freezes my game every time. Will try the windowed mode next. Let's see how it does.

Dxdiag as a zip as requested, and thanks!

Damn... already had it on windowed mode... hmm will try something else, everything low, no Vsync, no weather.

All set the minimum, no weather, no Vsync. CPU and GPU are fine, but power usage spikes to Very High. Photo attached.

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 18362) (18362.19h1_release.190318-1202)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
User DPI Setting: 120 DPI (125 percent)
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
Display Memory: 14236 MB
Dedicated Memory: 6097 MB
Shared Memory: 8139 MB
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (120Hz)
Monitor Name: BenQ XL2420T (Digital)
Monitor Model: BenQ XL2420T
Monitor Id: BNQ7F04
Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
Driver Date/Size: 13.3.2020

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Display Memory: 1792 MB
Dedicated Memory: 32 MB
Shared Memory: 1760 MB
Driver Date/Size: 21.12.2015

Realtek High Definition Audio
Date and Size: 18.6.2015

Sound BlasterX G6
Date and Size: 11.3.2019

Drive: C:
Free Space: 4.8 GB windows and the game needs more than this, for temp and page file let alone game playing, free up at least 10 to 12GB minimum or windows, games and well everything will be working at max all the time

a clean install of the latest version of windows 10 is always better than a upgraded from previous version of windows which has then had 5 to 6 version of windows 10 installed on top

first power usage means power from the mains PSU etc and not the card itself, which is shown at 34% which is low usage, on max mine works at 100% GPU while you're on the lowest is 34% which is great, my 6 year old test pc card goes to 70% on the lowest, drawing power and GPU percentage are totally different things.

your screen shot shows low CPU and low base memory use which is well optimized tbh and GPU is well better than anyone so far posted, power draw means that, your pc is using more power from the mains, which all games will draw about the same on high end ones, it's GPU load of 100% you don't want, as without good cooling or clean fans etc, over time it can overheat and shut the pc down, which is also normal and how the bios works to protect the card from damage

Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 - motherboard integrated and never used
Realtek High Definition Audio - motherboard integrated and not used
Sound BlasterX G6 - up to date
Freed 12GB from drive C: although I have tried to set temp and page file stuff to other drive previous to this.

I know power and GPU load are different things, exactly why I pointed it out. So let's see the exact same scenario with high settings for comparison.

As we can see the CPU and GPU are still okayish, but the power usage is a problem... maybe my PSU is dying, after all the whole gaming rig is at the very end of it's life cycle.

Still I find it odd, that high power hogging happens in a still leaderboards type off a screen and not while in a scenario/mission.

Good to know, that there is finally some reaction from the developpers. Still, that at first it was treated like a minor issue that will someday adressed and might be fixed or nor (like on the steam forum zakblood linked to, or like here: viewtopic.php?f=464&t=97483) is highly dissappointing. I wonder if it is a coincidence that the high priority came an hour after the first person on the steam forum wrote about getting a refund due the unplaibility of the game. I would have expected much more from the developpers.

can't speak for the developer, but would guess the answer is no, had nothing to do with it tbh

it's a well know problem with the game engine, plain and simple and will be fixed and sorted, same as anything else brought forward found and replicated

So far, “a bust”;
1-the map screen is overly sensitive to mouse movements and difficult to keep in place. I do not need to see the border around the map. Zoom is extremely awkward and limited. Very disappointing here.
2-Too much clutter, banners in/on the map. Needs to be an easy way to hide the small map and banners to see just the map.
3-Very difficult to differentiate units. What is the point of the GI if you cannot easily see pertinent information.
4-Unit movement has a painfully slow response time despite the capability of my PC (Intel7)
5-Have yet to see anything that improves over PC1. After all the wait, hype and cost you would think the second generation would be an improvement not a regression.
6-about 3 hours in and increasing my frustration; if the hinkyness I have seen so far shows itself in other areas this is a gigantic bust. Shame on Slitherine for hyping this as an improvement to the original.

again no report, so not a lot i can offer as advice tbh, plays well on my 6 year old test pc, not tried it as of yet on my gaming rig

i play with just the map on, everything else closed tbh

You can adjust the mouse sensitivity in game from the options menu Display/UI. Also clutter on the map, size of the banners, and animation speed can be adjusted from the same menu.

Still the most common problem I encounter is mission/scenario/savefile not loading at all. CPU 0%, GPU 0% memory 20-35%

Alt+Ctrl+del and try again till it works...

Yep, I tried all sorts of video changes, etc but the game is unplayable. I applied for a refund. Perhaps when they put out some fixes I will consider it again. I love the Panzer Corps games but this one is just not ready.

Would hate refunding this... but would also hate returning after six months and see the game still at unplayable state... just can't get it to load missions, the rare cases it actually loads a mission, it works... but... :(

Sadly, I have to second most of what was posted here, I have crashes so often, the game is unplayable. Mostly, when I make a move, the game just freezes and that's it..
