BattlevonWar (Axis) vs Vokt (Allies)

Turn 1. September 1, 1939.

*EDIT: due to some problems with the image hosting website, some of the images of this AAR were lost. Content of the posts has been edited accordingly*

Hi there. It's been 7 months since my last AAR and now here it is another one with me playing as Allies this time. My opponent is @BattlevonWar. In Axis turn, Germans made the usual push through Lodz reaching vicinities of Warsaw. Luftwaffe losses were really low.

In Allies turn, Polish tried with no luck to weaken German attackers.

Turn 2. September 21, 1939.

Poland surrendered to Germany. Holland was invaded.

In seeing German attack to Holland, Allies rushed for setting an effective defense in Northern France. BEF left UK ports for France.

An aggressive start by the Axis player, but Belgium will be mobilised now. If you get mud next turn, it will be hard for the Axis player to take Belgium in 1939 (if that's his plan at all).

Turn 3. October 11, 1939.

Still fair weather. Holland holds for now. still holding on with the corps unit in Hague reduced to 3 steps. German subs were very active attqcking both RN carrier in Rosyth and BEF transports in France.

In Allies turn, air forces tried with no luck, to inflict damage on the German attacking subs.

Turn 4. October 31, 1939.

Mud weather helped the Dutch to hold for 1 more turn even if it was at very low strength.

By invading Holland and not Belgium on the same turn, your opponent has lost the advantage of surprise when he does invade Belgium. This means that all Belgium units will spawn at 10-steps and the Belgium units won't get the efficiency drop. Also, this means that Belgium will likely survive the invasion and you can rush French/British units to defend Brussels and Antwerp and make the axis life more difficult. I don't understand his strategy?

Turn 6. December 10, 1939.

Dutch are, against all odds, resisting turn after turn German onslaughts. Luftwaffe, that is providing air support in Holland each and every turn, is starting to suffer considerable attrition.

Turn 11. March 19, 1940.

Fair weather arrived. Wehrmacht invaded and conquered Belgium. Dutch corps in Hague, not the focus this time of German attacks, suffered minimal losses.

Turn 12. April 8, 1940.

In France, Wehrmacht completely overran French army in Lille, reaching the Somme and even crossing it with a panzerkorps. There were attacks near Lorraine, French HQ corps defending the resource, being killed.

Also, on this turn, Germany DOWed both Norway and Denmark. Denmark was easily taken and in Norway a landing fleet appeared off her coasts.

In Allies turn, first success so far: exposed panzerkorps that crossed the Somme, was heavily attacked by several air and land units, referred Axis unit ending destroyed and thus, the bridgehad formed, was removed. Intense air combats. Norwegians mobilised.

Turn 13. April 28, 1940.

Germans progressed significantly in the Somme, killing or battering several Allied units. The river was crossed again, this time probably for good. Progress is slower near Lorraine though.

No counterattacks from Allies this time.

Turn 14. May 18, 1940.

Armored and mechanised German units pushed hard through the Somme and, helped by an airborne operation, they reached and crossed the Seine. In Norway, attacks to Oslo started.

In Allies turn, German paratrooper unit was left battered due to an Allied counterattack. Anyway, since most powerful Allied units have been already wiped out, there's virtually nothing the Allies can do to keep the Germans from reaching Paris.

Turn 15. June 7, 1940.

More crossing of the Seine but still no thrusts against the French capital itself.

In Allies turn, the French, with all the remaining units that could be gathered and with some air support, launched a counterattack against another panzerkorps unit, that was left very damaged.

Norway still holds.

Turn 16. June 27, 1940.

Wehrmacht units in the Somme-Seine river made a pause for repairs. Main progress this turn was in Lorraine sector. Paris, threatened both from the W and the E, is likely to fall soon.

Italy joined the Axis.

I don't understand the Axis strategy in this game. Holland was attacked early, but not taken. France is holding out longer than normal so attacking Belgium separately from Holland obviously didn't work. The Axis have taken quite some losses as well, e. g. losing a panzer unit. The late fall of France means the French naval units can harass the Italian navy.

The attack on Norway seems strange too. The Germans landed in mud weather so the Norwegians could rail units adjacent to Oslo. No air support for Norway means the invasion takes quite some time.

I can't see the benefit in the strategy taking Holland this way. If you go after Holland separately then you need to do it in fair weather so Hague falls immediately.
