You have 2 Soviet tacs stationed on lake hexes terrain on the eastern bank of Caspian Sea. I didn't know that it was possible to deploy air units on lake hexes.

I did some Google search and those hexes correspond to the so called Garabogazköl depression in Kazakhstan. As long as it's an inundated depression, in good logic, air units shouldn't be possible to base there.

Those 2 hexes are set as clear hexes to link Krasnovodsk to the rest of onmap Russia. Otherwise you couldn't rail units to / from Krasnovodsk.

To prevent airbasing here then these hexes should probably have been swamp. That applies probably to some nearby hexes too which are also clear. However this would require a map change plus updates to the scenarios. Not sure it's worth it since heavy fighting having to use these airbases happens very rarely in GS.

My Bad...

Actually I checked my map and they are clear hexes not swamp. It is just the shading that makes it look like they are swamp.

So the map is correct to the scenario files and hex terrain.

Then maybe a thing to do could be to change only scenario files, accounting those hexes as swamp hexes no matter they are drawn as water hexes in GS map. It's tricky because in Google maps this region appears to be filled with water so to keep them drawn in the map as water hexes is maybe a good thing, only that they would be treated as swamp hexes for the purpose of the game.

Hex 149,44 and hex 149,45 are designated Lake since the others are clear for game mechanics to work properly.

No, they are designated clear. The main reason is that you can't trace rail via lake hexes. So we need then as clear to link Krasnovodsk into the Russian rail network.

That is irrelevant for the game. We need them to be clear for the rail line to reach Krasnovodsk. The real rail line went a bit further east off map. If we don't do this then the game will consider the Krasnovodsk area an island. It's similar to what we did with linking Norway and Sweden to Finland by pushing the Gulf of Bothnia a bit south.

quiet turn where we just run a few airstrikes in Persia - mostly we are waiting for our terrible labs to catch up!

drat - we pick the wrong turn to put pressure on in Persia, we play tit for tat in hitting the Luftwaffe after they targeted our Para and TAC's but were to bold in our advance as we fail to kill the next unit - doh!

Image

in Morocco we edge forward having killed the lead minor CORP, but get it slightly wrong - still we don;t expect a large counter attack

We are just standing facing each other at the moment - Russian labs have been so awful we haven't been able to attack - we would have been slaughtered
