2 questions about custom scenario<Hells Highway>

2 questions about custom scenario<Hells Highway>

At first,I think it's a very interesting scenario,good design. 8)

But I have 2 questions when I playing,hope someone can explain to me.Maybe scenario designer,maybe BA designer,maybe someone experineced BA- player.

question 1:
why a StuG can drive into or pass through a building?I remember I played <Normandy 1944> by MAXIMVS last year,a panther pass through a building and overrun my infantry behind the building . :evil: But In officer scenario, I don't have same question.

let me explain my picture.
I hide my infantry in the forest.red line ,enemy unit fire at my infantry with direct fire, blue line, my infantry fire back with direct fire.

X= forest O= my infantry G=enemy unit

In my option,I hide in the forest,around the forests.So enemy unit shouldn't see / fire to my unit,but my infantry was panic by enemy's direct fire. :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
Am I wrong?

Hi Tararo, Let's do the trees first, it's easy.

When designers create maps that include trees, they have to include (i) the forest zone (which tells the game engine only to let infantry in), (ii) drop in some actual trees (for the visual effect), and (iii) add something called a "blocking tree", which prevents units from seeing through that square. When maps get large and complicated, it's easy to do just (i) and (ii) because they're visually obvious, and forget to do (iii). What you see is the result. Suggest you PM the map designer with a link to this comment. I'm sure he will fix it. You're right, it shouldn't happen.

The issue with the house is more complex. All houses should block, so you shouldn't be able to take a StuG in there. But I've encountered issues with houses where you can fire through them (like you did with your trees). Never thought of driving a tank inside, lol... Amaris (map designer extraordinaire) explains that it's an issue with a certain subtype of house used in BA... the answer is to avoid this subtype of house. Again, the designer can fix this...

My pleasure Tarroro... Doing it yourself in the Editor is pretty easy, just add the "blocking trees" in the squares you want them, delete the old house and drop in a new one... Repost back if any problems.

Worth telling the designer because I'm sure he'll want to fix it for the rest of us to enjoy...

yep,I had PM the designer.
And I fixed the trees with block tree.About that house,I deleted the old house,place a new one.But I didn't have time to test "house " today.

PS. Hey Tarroro, It's probably too late for me to ask, but if you can figure out which kind of house is the "bad" house, that would be really useful to tell Pip & Iain... I couldn't figure it out last time I found one, and now I can't find a scenario that has one... thanks! :-)

Hey Tarroro, I'm not sure if you can rotate objects that have already been placed in the Editor. You have to delete them and place a new one. Press R to rotate to the orientation that you want before you lay it down. Btw, you can also place two houses in the same square. Sometimes that works visually, especially if you rotate one of them.

But... Interesting! The square for your problem house has at least three objects on it... a French Objects House 4, flowers and a brick yard... Walls, other than hedges, do permit movement, and obviously flowers permit movement, so I wonder if the BA game engine sometimes has problems resolving squares with multiple objects with different movement rules and cover ratings?

Erm...I build a new scenario,place a house,a brick yard,and flower,and I test it,but i did't have same problem.I have no idea about this.

Weird eh?... k9mike has found another problem house, in a Bois de Bavent scenario designed by Granfali... We have no idea why they happen. Pip? Iain?... But fixing seems easy enough. Just delete the house and replace it... Tell us if you figure it out! :-)

I believe Richard built some houses that he didn't want to have alter the terrain under them. That or it was a bug! I will check.

That make sense... and also explains why we only see it in "user content", never in Slith stuff...
Can you remind us which house types not to use?

just because I can't revert a "bad" house with a house,a brick yard,and flowers.I edited,then i tested,about 1 hour,just can't revert it.So i give up :(
