MikeMarchant's Gepids 27/41 (66%) beat Okie's Romans 45/41 (100%)
The Romans had the better part of the early game, with a disciplined advance across an open field, but once the Gepids had routed their Sarmatian allies and swarmed around their left flank, the advantaged switched to the Gepids and stayed with them until the end.
Good game, Okie, thanks.

Ironclad Prin Romans 260-84 41/47 win v NikiforosFokas Dom Romans Eastern Later 45/41
With enemy massed opposite my Sarmatians, my other wing of mediums was switched to the offensive and with the heavies in the centre won through after a tough fight which saw the enemy camp looted. Good game, thanks.

Re: Special league Tournament
MikeMarchant's Gepids 31/41 (76%) beat Ironclad's Romans 57/47 (100%)
An epic battle with Gepids swarming around the Roman left flank. With the Gepids massing their numbers to one side of the field, this left the majority of the Roman army with nothing to do, and a minority of the Roman army overloaded. By the time the slow legionaries could be redeployed they were surrounded and it was a fairly rapid slaughter from there.
There's no doubt that the Gepids had a good slice of luck with the early assault on the Roman left flank, allowing them to break through more quickly than was expected. If the breakthrough had been slower perhaps more legionaries could have arrived from the other end of the line to support, prop up the defence, and limit the breakthrough. That might have given rise to a very different result, but the barbarian horse gods were kind this day.
Thanks for a great battle, Nigel.

Re: Special league Tournament
MikeMarchant's Gepids 16/41 (39%) beat NotJustDon's Palmyrans 49/46 (100%).
Another classic case of focussing the majority of Gepids on the enemy left flank. It was a job of work to clear out the seeming multitude of heavy Sarmatian lancers, but they were outflanked and dispatched first. That left the field open for the Gepids to sweep round the Palmyran rear, pin the front of the line in the centre, and the crash in from the rear. The light harrying on the Palmyran right flank then turned into attack as the Palmyrans raced across the field in support, creating the space the barbarian horse needed to operate in.
Thanks for the game, Don.

Re: Special league Tournament
Yes, thanks Mike for the game. Totally outmaneuvered by the Gepid Cavalry which ran circles around me. Switching all of their centre towards my left flank and leaving a screening force on my right, my cavalry although better armoured were outnumbered almost 4-1 on the left, pinning me in front and then coming around the rear, it was curtains.MikeMarchant wrote:MikeMarchant's Gepids 16/41 (39%) beat NotJustDon's Palmyrans 49/46 (100%).
