Optimum LF

Post by philqw78 »

What do you think is the optimum size for a LF BG? 6 or 8 bases? Please give your reason if you say six so I can beat Hammy with it. Please be incoherent or as thick as a piss stone if you vote 8.

I voted 6 just to be agreeable ;-).

On a related note, I've been wondering for New Kingdom Egyptians whether it makes more sense to buy the MF drilled, average, unprotected Bow BGs as 6s or 8s. I originally thought that 8s would be better to avoid rounding down for the back rank firing but now I'm wondering if 6s may actually be better in terms of being able to "focus" fire more and assuming that in general one BG shouldn't be the only thing firing at its target if I really want the fire to be effective.

I voted 8 'cos 8s of LF make a mess of 6s of mf bow

or at least make them feel a bit silly

I would say six, reasons
You get to spend minimum points on two BG of targets
They concentrate fire easier
Six is easier to manouver, whether to get out of the way of the homicidal libyan LF or just to wheel in small spaces or at a tighter angle
They have less chance of losing a base to shooting
2 wide they still count as 6 for hits per base
More BG in the army

All depends on the situation. I gave up my MF bows for LF bows and run them in 8's. Undrilled unarmoured MF bows could not get out of trouble so always ended up fighting something, mass LF run away when charged so I find them much better. Now if only I could actually roll some hits with them all....

Actually, my favourite ally for LRRomans is Numidian. The commander can bring along up to 6 4paks. They are great for targetting elephants. The LF screen can't be chased away entirely by one enemy BG charging.

I take fours whenever I can - sixes when I cant and then upgrade them to eights once I have spent the rest of my points.

4 or 6 points to boost a poor BG 8 or 10 for an average group of LF by two.

Sounds like my slingers, make them poor at 2 points a piece, since they are lights I want them to run away.

I voted 8 to be contrary.

I have Welsh, Huguenot, Cherokee and Confederate ancestors.

Contrary works for me.

I don't care if it works for you.

I don't know how thick a piss stone is either, but however thick it is I can beat it.

And obviously took the worst from all. A sheep sh*****g, garlic eating, pipe smoking, hillbilly. Now that my ignorance is out of the way I can continue

It always makes a better game if players have contrary positions.

You'd have to go to an old British pub. But they are quite thick.

As the vote is essentially whether you agree with Hammy I felt there was only one way to vote :P

Surely I did not frame the questions in any way that they could influence an honest and fair vote.

Perhaps I should go into politics

I voted 8 because 'six is better and I have an above average IQ or don't like Hammy'

The way I play, 8's is a good an excuse for my P4 W0 D0 L4 record, given my army choice for Roll Call I certainly cannot be said to have an above average IQ (even if Tim P rescues me from having to deploy such a crap army on the table by being the chosen floater) and I like Hammy. Mind you I have never actually met Hammy...

Phil

'Surely I did not frame the questions in any way that they could influence an honest and fair vote'. I must have missed any bias in the question framing, looked fair and above board to me.
