CTD during Norway

Post by borsook79 »

I just had a CTD playing the Norway scenario, it looked preatty random, there was not error message. I'll try to replay this turn and see if I can reproduce it. Below I'm pasting the error log, but the creation date of this file is 30 minutes prior to the crash.

Was it the first time with any campaign that you have played?
Did you upgrade your drivers, or have done any update lately

So far I have played only 3 scenarios, and the crashes happened only during this one. No changes were made since me playing the other 2.

No, I played before, but had to take a break from gaming and decided to start over. I think I had at least one CTD before but not as many.

So I guess you've a save in Norway, right?
If that's the case wouldn't you mind to do a little test?
Would you please rename the "audio" folder inside Panzer Corps to "_audio"?
Try to play this way the Norway save to test if there's any CTD. You'll not hear any sound.
I suspect that your issue is related with your sound codecs or filters. This way we know for sure that is the sound part of the game which is causing your CTD.

I did that and suddenly Norway became very stable, I did not manage to get a single CTD. :)

It means that you probably have a problem with a codec filter or drivers.
But first could you please do a DXDiag and post it here?

You've installed a codec pack in your Asus, like K-lite, didn't you?
I say this because of the kind of codecs you've installed.

It's not easy to solve this kind of things. Usually it's a broken codec, or a conflict.
In your case it seems related with wav because you told us that it was during moving and attacking.
Those files are wav files.
You could try to convert the files to wav by using foobar2000.
http://www.foobar2000.org/
It's not hard usually it only take a couple of minutes. You would have to remove all those wav files and replace the with the mp3.
It could work or maybe not.

You drivers are the latest I've checked in the Asus website.

You can try to reset the K-lite settings. There's a codec tweak tool that you've installed that permits to detect broken codecs, reset the settings of codecs/filters, etc. I suppose you can try that.
But anything related with codecs I advise to create a restore point if anything goes wrong you can go back.
It's always a risk you can end up having no video or sound. But you've a problem with this game and your installed codecs.

I have a restore point, trouble is all my over games (more than 30) play nicely with them and I do need them :)

I'll try converting to mp3. So I can just put mp3s in the audio folder, with the same file name (albeit different extention) and the game will use them just like that? Good to know :)

Since converting to mp3s I haven't had a single CTD. :) Hope this is going to stay like that.

Played 2 more scenarios since then, no CTDs. :)

Should anyone have similiar issues, here are the audio files converted to mp3, just unpack to PzC directory:

I'm glad you found it useful :)

How about making mp3s the default in the next patch? seems like a good idea.
