eric 10/33 vs petran 23/23
Must say I was lucky with a number of impact and combat dice rolls.
Pete I think the draw simialr to the FA Cup is the best idea.
dazzam, have posted a challenge for 2nd round game, pw = dazzam

All the second round matches are either underway now, or at least have the initial challenge up on the FOG screen.
All apart from Match 1 where tullius is waiting patiently for zumHeuriger and jonno to finish their very cagey, attritional battle. Don't worry tullius - your next opponents have until Sunday to finish and I may them allow an extra day or two if they are on the verge of completion - and if I do that then I will allow you a similar extra amount of time for your second round match as well. If jonno and zumheuriger were, however, to draw their first round match then I would have to decide who progresses by a toss of a coin, rather than sanction a replay - because there is just not enough time now.

Yes, I think so too, Eric. If I had seeded this tournament I might have gone 1) yourself, 2) davouthojo, 3) hidde and 4) deeter - but now in the second round two of the "big guns", hidde and deeter, have been drawn together and so this will open up space elsewhere in the draw for less experienced players to have the chance to progress to the later stages of the competition. That has got to be a good thing for the competition, in my view.ericdoman1 wrote: Pete I think the draw simialr to the FA Cup is the best idea.

If you all look at the grid for the quarter-final draw in the second post on page one of this thread, you can see that Tiavals will now play ericdoman1 in the quarter-finals.Tiavals wrote:3. Fedem (Republican Roman, later) 24/24 v Tiavals (Nikephorian Byzantine (later) 24/33
By filling in the grid in this way the upside is that some players can have a bit more time to arrange their next match. They can start it straight away or they can wait a few days until a few more second round results have come in. Maybe the downside of doing it this way is that there will be greater uneveness in the competition inasmuch as some players could still be playing their second round match while others have finished their quarter-finals.
The alternative way of doing things is to do what I did towards the end of the first round when I announced the date for the second round draw and then revealed it all then. There was no prior filling up of a grid as the results came in. So which method do people prefer?
Please note: I am just touching on a few of the organisational issues concerning cup competitions as we go through the tournament. Any feedback is most welcome.

Draws in advance
I have no problem with any format
On a positiev note it means that games can potentially start very quickly.
On a negative note having a tough draw might be a bit of a downer
Overall though I think waiting for all the players to have played and then having the draw, may well increase the level of excitement.

Thanks for your replies, Peter and Eric. Yes, I am inclined to agree with you both. I think I much prefer to announce the date the draw will take place and then reveal it all in one go. It doesn't matter too much if there are a few "either/or" ties in the round for games that have not yet been completed. I did the draw in a different way for the quarter-finals just to illustrate the alternative really. I will revert to the preferred way for the semi-finals.
So, in terms of the cup draw mechanism, it seems that players are generally OK with a completely open draw each time (with no seeding of the top players) and the draw should be published in full on a stipulated date. Thanks for the feedback.

There are still three second round matches in progress. Can one player from each of these pairings please indicate whether their games are proceeding OK (and that no opponents have suddenly "disappeared"). Thanks.
2. hidde (Moldavians) v deeter (Graeco-Bactrians)
5. cromlechi (Graeco-Bactrians) v batesmotel (Bosporans, mid)
7. todd645 (Latin Greece Achaia) v TGM (French Ordonnance, later)
Winners of 2nd round matches may start your quarter-final tie as soon as your opponent is known.
