Since Mike has obviously been captured by Cilician Pirates and nobody wants to pay his ransom, the UK satrap of the mighty Persian Empire has made up his mind to unilaterally invade the US colony of Macedonia.

Game 3 (mixed). Achmaenid(UK&Eire) vs Alexandrian Macedonian(NA)

Prepare to defend yourself!

Game 4 (open) Skythian (NA) – Todd645 vs Alexandrian Macedonian (UK&Eire) - stockwellpete

Skythian 42/67 Macedonian 56/52

Go NA!

There was some nice terrain despite it being open. The Skythian general picked the battlefield with an orchard and hill on the left, and the same on the right with a few small steep hills. I knew that I had no hope against the Macedonian pike, so the plan was to delay that clash as long as possible and use the Greek hoplites as the sacrificial lambs in the center. The Thracians took up the left, but the Macedonian MF was there in force and looked like a bad bet. On the right, the Skythian commander took all of the cavalry in an attempt to overwhelm the superior Macedonian lancers. This gambit paid off, and the Macedonian horse was destroyed during a running battle against Skythian archers. The Greeks were crushed in the center, but our superior numbers allowed that to be an OK trade. The Thracians did well on the left, but it was pretty much a wash in the end.

Thanks for a great series of games!

Sorry team. :oops: I'm no good with "ancients" I'm afraid - I just play medieval these days and I should have been firmer with my initial "no thanks" to Eric when he asked me to stand-in for the player who dropped out. I hope you can make up the deficit in the other games. Well done to Todd who completely outplayed me from beginning to end in our match. As for me, I am back into my time machine and the dial is set for the 13th century! :D

So far

Post by ericdoman1 »

UK & Eire = 7 pts (649 bps)
North America = 7 pts (574 bps)
ROTW = 5 pts (540 bps)
Europe = 3 pts (445 bps)

Round 3

North America vs UK & Eire

Game 1 (very crowded) Classical Indian (UK&Eire) – ericdoman1 vs Thracian(NA) -TGM
Game 2 (crowded) Classical Indian(NA) - iversonjm vs Skythian (Uk&Eire) – maharg25
Game 3 (mixed). Achmaenid(UK&Eire)- ianiow vs Alexandrian Macedonian(NA) - deeter
Game 4 (open) Skythian (NA) – Todd645 - 1 (43/67) vs Alexandrian Macedonian (UK&Eire) - stockwellpete - 0 (56/52)
Game 5 (very open)Thracian (UK&Eire) - Triarius vs Achmaenid (NA) - batesmotel

Europe vs ROTW

Game 1 (very crowded) Thracian(ROTW)- jonno vs Classical Indian(Europe) -Finir
Game 2 (crowded) Thracian(Europe) - cavehobbit 0 (74/74) vs Skythian (ROTW)- Massina_nz 1 (57/75)
Game 3 (mixed) Classical Indian (ROTW)- rexhurley vs Skythian(Europe) -Boores
Game 4 (open) Alexandrian Macedonian(Europe) -dvorkin vs Later Archie Persians (ROTW)- tullius
Game 5 (very open) Alexandrain Macedonian (ROTW)- Fedem vs Later Archie Persians (Europe) – Hidde

As for my game with TGM.

Firstly due to tiredness (feeble excuse), I chose the wrong map.

It is the map with a very large hilly area in the centre, crested by steep hills, small plateau in the centre and a large plateau on the right. Open ground my far left.

TGM had his hoplites in the open and a mass of skirmishers across the board. His MF were able to occupy parts of the steep hill and so have a very good defensive position agst all of my mounted.

My left is about to go but then I will have a number of archers on top of a steep hill to try and secure the flank. My right will succumb to the pressure of TGMs mf and the centre is in the balance. I think I am on 28/58 and TGM is on 30/76 BUT we are taking equal amounts of bp losses, something I can not afford.

So not looking good chaps.
