Since they've been neglected so far, put me down for the Barbarians with Alexandrian Macedonian allies (for when undrilled just won't do ;-) ).

I was tempted by the Baa-baas as there are a few real destroyers in there (if you get the terrain ;) ).

I've PMd Aristides but had no response. I'll give it another day or so and then we can get started.

Greetings, I am interested but i am not sure of a few things...

1. Mercenary Army...Is that a whole different army (like a secondary army) than your Normal main army?

2. Is it a round robin?

3. When will it start...I would more than likely use Classical Spartans and have to find a mercenary army...

4. Are all armies 400 points?

Thanks Grudge

Grudge,

Take a look at page one. The second URL includes two maps and a list of the army sets/regions available. For example Classical Spartan is part of the Hellenic region. So, to get Classical Spartan you would take the Hellenic region. Then each of the armies in that region are available for your use. In addition you can pick one mercenary army list from another region. I picked Macedonian as my region and Greaco-Bactrian as my mercenary army.

The size of the armies is set by season.

Spring 400
Summer 500
Fall 300
Winter - Prep for next campaign season.

What Pat said :) Most importantly, this is not a league - it's a campaign format that is intended to give a little structure and historical feel to what are (for the most part :)) quite friendly encounters. If you take a look at the 'To Tame a Land Redux' thread, you should get a feel for how it plays out. The rules on the first page should give an idea of how it works behind the scenes.

Cheers,

OK, I understand it now...I will go ahead and take my Classical Spartans (and be a whipping boy)

My allies will be Seleucid Sucessor ...I would think since this is the breakup of Alexanders army, it is considered greek...If not let me know and I will decide between 2 others.

You don't have a single army for your main force, you have available all the armies in that region (see the post above with the links to regions). So if you want to use Spartans (amongst others) then you would choose the Hellenic region. Each player also gets to choose one 'mercenary' army per year (3 seasons) from outside their region... so anything that isn't in your region list but is in another can be selected as the mercenary army for that year.

I just re-read what you said...So I can play ANY army in the Hellinistic (sp) region as my regular army but am limited to my ally as the one I chose?

That is even better

OK, added to list. As we now have twelve players, booking is closed. We should be in good shape to start within the next few days, maybe just after the weekend. Need selections from Aristides and Eric.

Exactly. Check the rules post (second one I think) for details on resting armies.

I am a little confused onthe seasons..every battle we play is considered 1 season with different army points allowed.

so since we rest 1 season (winter) which I assume is the same for everyone....and we have to pick a different ally evey year, that would mean in my case I would use Spartans 2 times (or 3 if I want) and sec's once if I use Spartans 2 times. Then I have to change my Ally fro the next year but can keep my Spartans? Is that correct?

If not I would want to change to Macedonians as they have more armies I can chose allies from...

i may have read it wrong..I am not the squirrel at the yop of the tree!!

Have to run and sign a contract...will check in a couple of of hours...

Thanks for your patiance
