PC Stops Responding after air combat.

Post by shepherd74 »

Playing a multiplayer game, my opponent reported that the game crashed for him upon combat beginning on his end. He was receiving a "game has stopped responding" message. So we loaded up a new scenario and on my turn, upon engaging in air combat on turn 2, I received the same message. After reviewing this forum I have:

Updated all sound and video drivers. Changed the name of the audio file and the problem still replicated. I replaced all .wav files with .mp3. Still replicated.

It's a bit strange that this is popping up now as I have played fairly far into the single player '39 campaign with no issues. Also, my opponent and I had already completed another multiplayer game with no issues as well. And then in the span of a few days we both have this issue.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Welcome.
So, this only happens in multiplayer?

Hello, and thanks for the swift response. Yes. Seems to only happen in multiplayer. Although, I was using early war units my in my single player campaign and our current multiplayer game is using late war units. Not sure if that would cause this issue though.

Guys, I'm looking into this problem now. I see that you have three games going on now: Hylan Valley, Battle of the Bzura and Iron Cross Red Star. Hylan valley is at turn 2, and it is shepherd74's turn. As I understand, his description of the problem above belongs to this game. I've noticed that this game uses "Undo OFF" option, and this reminded me of another thread with a similar problem:
viewtopic.php?f=146&t=36482

So I downloaded the game from MP server and tried to replicate the issue. If I initiated normal air combat, all was fine. But if I ran my plane into a previously unspotted enemy plane, the game crashed, due to the same bug which caused the problem in the topic I've quoted above. Does this sound like what was happening to you? If yes, this issue will be fixed in the next update, and in the meantime the workaround is not to use "Undo OFF" option. If no, please give me more details on what actions exactly you are doing to get the crash, and I'll investigate further.

That is exactly the case. When I move my fighter bomber down to one of the towns in the SE, it uncovers his plane and there is an "unexpected encounter". The game crashes immediately after resolution of combat.

I had theorized it might be a Norton 360 issue, since Pixel and I both use that virus scanner, but didn't know if the game sent information to your server after every combat.

We will attempt with "Undo On" and report back. Our first game, which we completed, had "Undo On". Thanks for looking in to it for us. We're enjoying the game.
