Would you watch animated movies with more mature themes?
It seems like lot of people think media like comic books, animated movies/shows, and video games are meant only for children. I think this attitude stifles creativity. I think there should be more comics and animated films/shows that cover mature topics. I think American animation is geared too much toward adult comedy and children's entertainment. Can't we have an animated show or movie cover a serious topic like war or politics? Comic books have already started covering serious subject matter. When will animation grow up? If comics could move past super heroes I don't see any reason why animation should be relegated to raunchy adult comedy or children's entertainment. I hope someday American animators would make about air combat. Do you want animation that is not geared towards children? I do. We need to break out of the animation age ghetto!

There is already a ton on mature theme anime's!

I was watching the anime series Attack on Titan the other day, it's not bad. But what I really liked was the look of the fictional walled city state. It looked like something out of Prussian Germany in the late 1700's and I thought it was pretty cool. It made me think, wouldn't be something if these animators made an epic series based on World War 1?

IMO the Japanese are doing the best animated movies by far.
Among so many great artists, Hayao Miyazaki is the master of his trade - for mature themed works you might check his early SciFi movie Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, the unusual fantasy story Princess Mononoke or the very emotional WW2 themed Grave of the Fireflies.

Of course, I love anime with older themes, like Parasite or Hunter X Hunter, who, despite his genre sonnen, touches on very difficult topics - loss, love, addiction. I like to reflect on such topics after watching.
