newbie: please explain parachutists deployment

Hi,

Complete novice, just don't get how to get the parachutists on the plane and how to get them off. I've been reading that they're on the plane to start, but that's not the case because if I fly the plane the chutists stay put.

Tried embark/disembark and kind of sort of got it to work .. but it looked like maybe it disembarked/released the chutists at the starting point?

Sorry, completely unable to figure this out.

When you deploy your forces at the start of the scenario hover over the embark/disembark button - it will tell you how many free transports you have.

IF you have available transport, selecting a parachute infantry WITHOUT attached truck/halftrack will bring up air deployment hexes. Click on an empty hex and the infantry should deploy the infantry into the hex with its own plane.

You should be able to move it like any other plane. At the start of a move you can hit the disembark button and it should bring up eligible, adjacent hexes for your para to jump into. Note that the para might not land in exactly that hex.

If you wish to re-embark your para onto its transport, move it to an airfield, and at the start of it's next turn you can load it up.

Note - be careful not to double click on the transport when you select it or the program will assume you want parachute into that hex without requiring you to use the disembark button.

To add to the response – It sounds like you might be deploying a plane (fighter/tac bomber/strat bomber) and then deploying a paratrooper on the plane. If you do this, it will put the paratrooper on the ground. This is because paratroopers already have their own planes. So you should make sure to deploy it on a hex that doesn’t already have an airplane.

Also, make sure your paratrooper doesn’t have a transport (opel blitz, halftrack, etc.).
