Immortal Fire tournament - main thread/post results here

Post by Jonathan4290 »

Welcome to the Immortal Fire tournament! Please read all rules below.

We will be using the OLD FOG and NOT the NEW FOG(U).

Please also note that pools are divided in half for the purpose of more scheduled matches. I have done this, so if the new FOG replaces the old FOG, we will not lose as many matches.

If you have any questions, please ask me.

Important dates:
- Jan 26: FIRST pool stage begins (3 weeks to complete 4 matches)
- Feb 16: FIRST pool stage ends (players who have not completed their matches subject to possible replacement by reserves)
- Feb 17: SECOND pool stage begins (5 weeks to complete 6 matches)
- Mar 24: SECOND pool stage ends
- Mar 25: quarter-finals begin
- Apr 8: semi-finals begin
- Apr 22: finals begin

Structure of tournament:
- There are 4 pools of 6 players each, or 8 sub-pools of 3 players each
- Each pool is divided in half for the purpose of scheduling matches
- Each player will be assigned a random army from a select list of Immortal Fire armies
- You will eventually play each player in your pool once in a mirror match, one with your drawn army, one with your opponent's drawn army
- 3 pts awarded for win, 1 pt awarded for draw of any sort (e.g. if you win both games in your mirror match, you receive 6 pts)
- Top 2 players in each pool advance to quarter-finals
- Quarter-finals/semi-finals/finals all decided by mirror match where combined scores decide winner on percentage (e.g. if player A's combined BPs for both matches is 93/100 (93%) and player B's is 70/76 (92.1%), player B is victorious)
- Games not completed by deadlines are subject to adjudication

Arranging matches:
- Players will only arrange matches they are scheduled to play. This means each player will play 2 opponents in mirror matches in the first pool stage, and 3 opponents in mirror matches in the second pool stage.
- Players are responsible for arranging matches
- Post challenge in this thread AND PM to ensure your opponent saw it

Rules of games:
- Armies will consist of 500 pts
- You may customize your army before each match
- Fog of war and double moves will be used
- Digital League rules on army size/composition do not apply

Posting results:
- Winners of each individual match are responsible for posting result in this thread; I will periodically update the results table
- Please use this format:
Pool A result:
Alexander (Macedonians) 30/45 defeats Darius (Persians) 50/50

Ratings:
- This tournament will count towards ratings and rankings used by the Digital League
- This tournament is considered a B-level tournament.

The pool/army draw is as follows. Play everyone in your sub-pool in the first pool stage, and then the rest of your pool in the second pool stage.

Lydianed: Alexandrian Macedonian

Excellent battle - just when I started to drive the armour/pike advantage Paul killed off my light troops.... the whole affair centered on a swampy river, and I managed to route his chariots and horse early... only to be outdone by valiant archers.

Indians 82% - Macedonians 100%

Pool C2 result:
Asterix_von_TWC: Alexandrian Macedonian) 42/41 loses to Paulmcneil (Classical Indian) 42/51

Pool B-2

MikeMarchant's Colonial Greeks (53/59) beat Majandro's Macedonians (36/36)

A slugfest of a fight where quantiy eventually won out over quality. The way my hoplites were breaking up and down the line I thought this was going to be a terrbile defeat, but the numbers told in the end.

Thanks for the game, Majandro, and bad luck.

Best Wishes

Very tough battle 86%-100%. We lost our left wing, but we win in the right. The center was more disputed.

Pool D2

Ironclad (Thracian) 48/71 defeats tofman04 (Thessalian) 55/53

In a hard fight, the Thracians used the central stream and surrounding cliffs to hold the heavily contested centre and left whilst destroying the more exposed Thessalian left wing.

Pool A-2

Nzsam03 (28th - 30th Dynasty Egyptian) 54/52 drew with Ulysisgrunt (Early Gatae) 65/60

Very close last turn, with the Egyptians needing 4 more points and the Gatae needing only two. The Egyptians were able to get the points by winning a few lopsided fights, but their disrupted spear could not hold on and ceded the requisite points right back!

Pool B-2

Mike Marchant's Alexandrian Macedonians (31/43) beat Majandro's Later COlonial Greeks (54/46) in the mirror-match battle.

Another slugfest, as you'd imagine, but success turning the Macedonian left flank and a good push in the centre was enough to win the day.

Bad luck, Majandro, things definitely didn't go your way in this one, and thanks for the game.

Best Wishes

And thus he edges me out of of the competition of C2 even though I won over his Macedonian mobile force with my mirror Scythians.

Alexandrian Macedonian (Sirlancelot) 39/38 Skythian (Asterix_von_TWC) 42/44

Great game Sirlancelot!

Spartan ally performed far better for me in this match compared to Yuknoom's Spartans and that made a big difference
