NatCon 2015 - NZ National Championships

Post by KeefM »

Where & When: Freemans Bay Community Centre, on the 3rd, 4th & 5th of April 2015 (Easter weekend). The website for NatCon is here: http://aucklandcityguard.freeforums.org ... -t851.html

FoG Napoleonic 15mm

Umpire: Keith Marshall

Army lists to taken from either of the two published books of army lists only. A single 800pt army list (in army builder format please) is due by Sunday 22nd March via email to the umpire.

The first 2 rounds’ match-ups will be randomly drawn; thereafter by Swiss Chess high scores. A runners-and-riders list will be emailed/posted as soon as I receive the final list, and the first round draw will be emailed/posted as soon as I have vetted all lists.

6 rounds of ‘normal’ 800pt-a-side games, 2 rounds per day:

Friday: 1st round 9am to 12.30pm, 2nd round 1.30pm to 5pm
Saturday: 3rd round 9am to 12.30pm, 4th round 1.30pm to 5pm
Sunday: 5th round 8.30am to noon, 6th round 12.30pm to 4pm.
(NB: note the earlier start and finish times, and the shorter lunch break, for Sunday only !)

Scoring as per the 25-0 FoG-N score sheet.

A players pack will be posted on the NatCon site shortly: fyi, the usual NZ playing amendments/clarifications will be used with the following addition: Skirmishers (per the rule definition) in the open who are charged by non-skirmishers will take a CT – in the event that the CT is failed the skirmisher unit will lose a cohesion level and evade. In the event the CT is passed a LC skirmisher can either evade or counter-charge (declare which prior to taking the test); infantry skirmishers must evade. The movement distance for any skirmishing unit evade adds 2MU to the normal evade distance (as per the new QRS notes).

I've entered.
Not sure what army yet though. Might try something other than Austrians or Empire French this time.
Choice of Tyroleans, 1792 French, or Ottomans...

A players pack is now up on the NatCon site. It contains all the usual clarifications/amendments used in NZ, plus a tweak to the skirmisher rules used at Battlecry.

We have 10 entries that I'm aware of so far ... 3 army lists are already vetted and am waiting for the rest (you know who you are !!).

Once I have all lists vetted, I will publish the runners and riders list AND the first two rounds draws :D.

You would almost assume it was some sort of "Late" restricted theme comp. No unreformed either.

My list for what it's worth.

Anglo-Portuguese - 1813

Competent Corps Commander Hill.

Cavalry Competent Divison Comamnder Cotton
1 Heavy Cavalry Superior Veteran Guard Shock + Gun O'Loghlin. 1st & 2nd Life Guards. Royal Horse Guards, Bull's Troop RHA.
1 Heavy Cavalry Superior Veteran Shock + Gun Arentschildt. 1st & 2nd Dragoons KGL, Gardiner's Troop RHA.
1 Heavy Cavalry Average Veteran Shock Ponsonby. 5th Dragoon Guards, 3rd & 4th Dragoons.
1 Light Cavalry Average Drilled Barbacena. 1st, 6th, 11th & 12th Portuguese Dragoons.

Infantry Competent Divison Comamnder Lecor. 7th Division. 'The Mongrel Division'.
1 Light Infantry Average Veteran Inglis. 51st Foot, 68th Foot, 82nd Foot, Chasseurs Britanniques.
1 Line Infantry Average Veteran + Gun + Rifle Barnes. 6th Foot, 2/24th Foot, 2/58th Foot, Brunswick Oels, Cain's Brigade, RFA.
1 Line I Average Veteran + Rifle Doyle. 7th and 19 Portuguese Line, 2nd Cazadores.

Infantry Competent Divison Comamnder Stewart. 2nd Division. 'The Observing Division'.
1 Line Infantry Average Drilled + Rifles Pringle. 1/28th Foot, 2/34th Foot, 1/39th Foot & Coy 5/60th.
1 Line Infantry Average Veteran + Gun + Rifles Barnes. 50th Foot, 71st Light, 92nd Foot & Coy 5/60th, Maxwell's Brigade RFA.
1 Light Infantry Average Veteran + Rifles Ashworth. 6th Cazadores.

The army list doesn't allow historical formations so the above divison makeups are a bit of a mix. The 6th Cazadores shouldn't be a brigade-sized unit.
The attachments can be moved around.

I believe this is the smallest army in the competition.

It's always interesting to see how armies are put together.

I occasionally try a small, guard corps. The prob is that the Russians in particular can wrap around me quickly, esp. with dead's swarms of cuirassiers looming on the horizon! I've found I can get across the table quickly on one flank with the guard infantry and artillery, but that it still takes time to soften whatever is opposing me. Such the dilemma.

I would be interested to see the results of this one. Will they be published here?

The great Russian smiting machine (above) swept all before it. Well, certainly in 3 of its 6 games it did ! Duncanovski possesses the Sharpe's Eagle trophy for the next year !!!

I will post the full results and analysis just as soon as I get to use a full keyboard ...

I used 1813 Spring French Guard. Did ok, mid table for me.
In hindsight I needed a little more firepower. A gun attachment for one of the AC Line and trading a cavalry unit for a horse artillery battery would have been better.
