NZ National Championships - Easter 2016
Dates are Friday 25th March to Sunday 27th March 2016: 3 days, 6 games.
Next up; where ?
I'll run a straw-poll here, closing Friday 25th September.
Options are:
1. Dunedin (to align with the rest of NatCon)
2. Upper Hutt (to align with DBR/DBMM crowd)
3. Auckland (cos that's where most of our FoGN players live)
4. A.N.Other location (WTF & specify)

Re: NZ National Championships - Easter 2016
Sadly the easter weekend is not an option for me. I did hear talk of a Fogn competition in New Zealand at the end of February which is of interest. Hopefully we get details of that at some point.

Auckland. We'll get more players and we've pretty much established the rules as the tournament set.

I'm for Auckland at Easter. Dunedin is second choice as I have family there.

Re: NZ National Championships - Easter 2016
Natcon in Dunedin would have been my preference if it was a traditional convention with a full range of competitions. But as there is now an alternative tournament in the Hutt, then that would be my next preference as FOGN fits the 'long format' games that will be there.
Auckland is convenient for the core of FOGN players who live here, but I'm not sure that spending all of Easter in the North Shore scout hall is much of an attraction. If anyone is volunteering to organise a tournament in Auckland, finding an attractive venue may be a challenge.
But in any case, I'll attend the FOGN tournament at Easter, where-ever it is held.

I think we should support NATCON - my vote goes to them.
Looks like the Hutt!

I agree with fruit of the loins of my fifth form mathematics teacher, we should support NATCON!
My voting preference is -
1st Dunedin
2nd Auckland
3rd Upper Hutt
On a side note I got to see ol'Bonnie's death mask today (or copy of it considering where I am)

Re: NZ National Championships - Easter 2016
With a week to go in the preference voting stakes, the current shape is:
Auckland = 3 + 1
Dunedin = 1 + 1
Hutt = 1 + 1
. . . personally, I'm ambivalent as to location. With there already being a split between Dunedin & Hutt for historical competitions, and with Easter being a 'big ask' for anyone from Oz to come over, it probably doesn't matter too much in any event - in which case, for me anyhows, I'd opt for pragmatism and pick Auckland. Apart from the grief that'd cause me in terms of trying to get us a venue, the main thing I'd really wan to know is how many will turn up (wherever the competition) ??
So . . . vote for location over the next few days - then I'll have a shot at getting us a venue wherever that might be.

I'll see if we can get to use one of the spaces at work. I reckon the staffroom can fit 10 tables.

I've thought about it. They really sting you for flight prices and hotels around easter. But considering it.

I need to get a proposal to the property manager at work if we are to use a space. Lots of places we can use.
Any ideas of numbers? I'm thinking 8 tables is the usual.

Thanks Kendall !!
8 tables will cover it ... we'll limit entries if needs be.

Hi Kendall, I'm afraid being the Easter weekend rules it out for me too, for 2 reasons. Family may look at me more askance than usual, and bad time to coincide with a work trip. When's the other main NZ FOG N event?

Re: NZ National Championships - Easter 2016
There's Battlecry in Auckland during February some time and the North Island Convention which is the first weekend in June. Not sure where NICon will be next year.
Re: NZ National Championships - Easter 2016
Would one day love to attend as a player. But having too much fun organising events; which means unfortunately I can't make it as I'm running another event at that time. Will pass it on to those who know others however.
Re: NZ National Championships - Easter 2016
Happy New Year !!!
This is just to confirm that AUCKLAND is definintely the location ! The actual venue to be used will be confirmed early in February - check back here for further details on that.
Format will be using a single 800pt army list in 6 games over the first 3 days of the Easter weekend - Friday 25th March to Sunday 27th March 2016. The final fee for the weekend will just enough to cover the cost of venue hire for the weekend (divided by the number of us attending).
As to the approach for the tournament, I am intending to publish the draw (here and via email) for the first 4 rounds well in advance so I'll be looking for a early close-off for army list vetting, etc at the begining of March.
Let me know ASAP before end of January, if you are definitely attending as that will enable the logistics (ie how much tables/space we'll be needing) and for costs to be finalised. I will also send around an email to those of you I have email addresses for .
