French no longer in the release ?
French no longer in the release ?
Hello,
I preordered the game on the 26th of june. French localization was listed on the Steam page.
I just noticed today that French is no longer in this langage list.
What are your plans for the French localization and do you have any ETA to share with us?
I'm very disapointed because my English is not very good, as I am really looking forward to playing Gladius, this should have a huge impact on my gaming experience. (I'm currently thinking of asking for a refund)

Re: French no longer in the release ?
Yes French is in the release but for technical reasons we had to remove the flag for the approval process at Steam as the build they are reviewing does not have it. It will be added today.
Re: French no longer in the release ?
Quelques coquilles mais la trad' est plutôt correcte; en tout cas elle ne donne pas envie de mettre le jeu en anglais.
The french translation has few flaws but is the kind we keep rather than playing in english.

If you spot any problems let us know and we can check out how to make it better. Its hard for us to fix these issues without help!
Re: French no longer in the release ?
There are many flaws we don't have to report: already, just use the Word correcter on your texts, you'll find at least 3/4 of the faults: you'll have your own main report.
Re: French no longer in the release ?
What Eriss meant is that there are typos in about half or one third of the texts. (one every six sentences or so)
The wording is always good.
It's just that it isn't fixed regarding typos.
We could open a typo compilation here.
But before we do that, since it would relate to many (many!) of the game texts, I think we need to know if this is because we had a wrong version or if a writer is already delivering it.
I believe the community could handle it of course it would be no problem.
But maybe it's already in schedule or in a patch already developed, since it concerns so many texts it looks like we have an "older pre-release" version of the texts.

Re: French no longer in the release ?
If you can give some specific examples we can go to the translators and ask them to recheck.
Re: French no longer in the release ?
I extracted 4 of them Iain.
After re-reading the Compendium and going much further into the game: I think that there are not many typos, they are actually rare.
But: most of them are concentrated very early into the game!
They just are located where we don't want them :p
I took examples from the Space Marines as this is my current game.
Space Marines Campaign - Chapter 2
mixed letters: should be "Augmente la production" instead of "Augmente al production":
(this one is from one of our first briefings)
Space Marines Research tree
missing space: ("desSpace" should be "des Space")
(this one is one of our first techs)
Space Marines unit description
bad grammar - should be "équipée" instead of "équipé":
(this is one of our first units)
Space Marines Research tree
oddly missing uppercase:
(okay this one is late game )
English version:
BTW I noticed in the english version some odd usage of the article "the".
I am not a native english guy but others may have noticed it. I may look for it too..

Re: French no longer in the release ?
These are few example, I had seen different others.
Sure there are worst translators, seen in games, but yours is still not professional, even as I already said I didn't prefered to play in english.
Those typos shows he was not serious in his work.
And I even don't talk about how are built the sentences, like a common people (like me) trying to write great serious Wh40k world but lacking french language epic skill.

Re: French no longer in the release ?
You could give us the french language work files, we could directly correct them (then you convert in installed xml).
If not, reporting all these faults will be far much boring.
You can see with me by PrivateMessage.

Re: French no longer in the release ?
Hi guys,
Thank you for all the feedback, we are sorry the translations are not of sufficient quality.
We are currently working with the translator to allow them to fix the french language support based on your feedback.

Re: French no longer in the release ?
I finally play in English, waiting for a beautiful french text.
As I already said, the translator could easily fix its text, seeing swiftly his faults by a software dictionnary.
Once he had done this, we should have to report far fewer faults.
Or maybe your translator doesn't work with a computer? just a pencil?

Re: French no longer in the release ?
Eriss you can find all french texts in Data\Core\Languages\French
But they said they are already working on it.
Also I think the translator may have worked directly with XML files, so less correction implementations here.
Surtur, in english I only saw usage of the article "the"; there are many sentences such as "Increases the armour" which sound odd, I believe in english we just say "Increases armour".
But I am not a native english, so well I am out of my comfort zone here
Thanks and good luck.

Re: French no longer in the release ?
The translators are working on improvements. I think some made it in to the last version but There is more to come.
Re: French no longer in the release ?
Nope, these are not text files. Yes they may be used to correct ONE fault, but are far too boring to actually work with.
Sure not, they use working files (we don't have them), that the devs then process in game files.I think the translator may have worked directly with XML files,
Re: French no longer in the release ?
You do not believe in vain. All translators are working with XML files. There are no other files.

Too please fix the 'Salon de jeu' texts:

Masse terrestre -> Masse continentale
Vitesse de jeu -> 'Rythme de jeu' (or 'Allure du jeu' to keep feminine) ('Vitesse' seems it's animation speed like)
. Avancé:
Quests -> Quêtes
Simultaneus Turns -> Tours simultanés
Turn Timer -> Sablier du tour
None -> Non
Very Short -> Très court
Short -> Court
Moderate -> Moyen
Very Long -> Très long

Re: French no longer in the release ?
In the Town menu:
. Ordre des unités (nb) -> Ordres des unités (nb)
'Donner leurs ordres aux unités' (quit the town menu) would be tool long
. Sélectionner unité suivante inactive [Espace]. -> Sélectionner une unité inactive [Espace].
same, in english you should remove 'next', as we feel the town is not an usual unit
