Ladies and gentlemen,
Apologies for what may be a naive question, but I’m a newbie at this.
Presumably the inability to buy a FOG-R rulebook directly from Slitherine/Osprey (despite availability of the supplementary army lists) is because a new version is in development? Any intelligence as to when a new version may be available? If this is not the reason for the lack of product availability, does anyone know the reason why Slitherine/Osprey are missing a trick?
Many thanks

Re: FoG:R Update - an update
The “new version” is available now in the form of downloadable updates for the original version, available from the Competition Rules section of the bhgs website
It’s been publicly stated there are no plans to publish a new version with updates integrated into the book. Presumably this is because print and typesetting costs would exceed probable sales.
Based on what happened with the FoGAM update it seems likely that the IP involved in FoGR has somehow reverted to Slitherine, who are carrying on with their FoGR branded / engined video game, putting Osprey out of the picture. Slitherine don’t apoear to have any interest in publishing tabletop rules anymore, but did sell / license the rights to develop AM to a third party. As above, I’m not sure I see anyone taking on that financial gamble with a FoGR update anytime soon given current player numbers.

Re: FoG:R Update - an update
Thanks for the info Mr Axeman.
It’s a shame as to acquire a second hand version on the interweb in Blighty one has to shell out about 50 notes!
The discontinuation must have a subsequent impact on the sale of the supplementary army lists as it discourages new users, particularly given there are real alternatives such as Warlord’s Pike & Shotte.
I see from the ‘net that you are affiliated to Central London Wargames Group. Given I live in the Barbican I will find the opportunity to pop down to one of your club nights to discuss with some of the old lags.

You’d be very welcome at CLWC on either of our regular nights
I also doubt eithe Osprey nor Slitherine have any meaningful stocks of FoGR lists left by now, and any they might have will have been (financially) written off many moons ago - certainly nothing to warrant republishing hard copy rules which entail a full revision of all army list books too to accommodate points changes and discovered errors....

Probably because Warlord have just announced they’re about to release Black Powder 2 and are thus hoping if you liked the free PDF then you’ll buy the shiny new book with the updated rules!
