A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum Terebronii!
Two more results:
Romans (Edmund) 67/85 vs Goths (Iandavidsmith) 98/95
Edmund 10.3
Iandavidsmith 7.9
Goths (Edmund) 64/95 vs Romans(IMC) 88/85
Edmund 10.4
IMC 6.7
Conclusion - You have to attack with the Romans even though it feels wrong to do so. Thanks for the game Ians both.

Londo (Romans) 67/85 - allendeuce (Goths) 97/95

Londo 10.2
allendeuce 7.9

After all those battles in which Romans deploy with a line of MF in front, who get pummeled, here's a situation where Romans would kill for some decent MF, and yet there's none to be seen!

Nonetheless, I don't think the biggest problem for Romans is the swamp - the armour POA more or less equalises the fight. The biggest problem is the wave of barbarians slamming into your right flank!

I moved reserves to delay them, and in the meantime, most of the Roman line did well - particularly the Praetorians, who wiped out everything in front of them. This time, the Emperor did NOT run away! :)

It’s not that the Romans did not have auxiliary MF but depending on the historical requirements, the design can either assume that they’re part of the ‘residual troops’, or subsumed into the HF counters. Here, having separate MF counters would skew the historical flow and one would be left wondering how the Romans came to such grief. It’s a reason why you never see LF or LH, not that there weren’t any but because they are abstracted mostly as a consequence of the lack of command and control of the game system.

I'm a bit confused now Eric. I set up challenges per the table. All with passwords but I don't think we have a game scheduled. Whilst I'm happy to play a practice game if you wish please leave my challenges up for those intended. Someone else just nicked the one I set up first for Fogman and I had to work out who and what the password was to reset the challenge. Just gives me a headache!

You had the right challenges. I can see that one your Lake Benacus challenge (presumably vs IMC) is not password protected and could be picked up by anyone.

From the previous round ...

Edessa

Londo (Romans) 91/105 - IMC (Sasanians) 52/50

Londo 10.4
IMC 8.7

What a horrible situation for the plague-stricken Romans, ridden down by massed cavalry with no hope of victory and no chance of escape! Praise to Fogman for turning what is basically a massacre into an interesting and enjoyable scenario.

Update on this round: Emesa with mcfcivo well underway, as is Benacus with Ian, though that will have to wait for his return. Emesa with Edmund not yet started; challenge going up shortly.
