BHGS Challenge @ UKGE 1/2 June 2019

Post by madaxeman »

For 2019 the BHGS Challenge will again be held in Birmingham alongside UK Games Expo at the NEC over the weekend of 1st and 2nd June.

This gives players a great chance to make a long weekend of The Challenge and take part in the huge range of board and tabletop gaming activities and event alongside the 25,000+ boardgamers and wargamers attending UKGE. Currently we plan to offer the following events, with others potentially being added to the roster as well:

Field of Glory Ancients 15mm
DBMM 15mm
DBMM 6mm
L'Art de la Guerre 15mm
L'Art de la Guerre 25mm
Mortem et Gloriam 15mm

At The BHGS Challenge there will be one "open" Field of Glory periods using Field of Glory V3.0 rules.

15mm Ancients & Medieval: 800 points, any army from the newly published Books

72" by 48" tables

Games will be 3 hours.

Sat 9:00 to 12:00, 12:45 to 15:45 , 16:00 to 19:00
Sun 9:30 to 12:30, 13:30 to 16:30

The V3 FoG clarifications, errata and list building spreadsheet can be found here.

Bookings are now open for the BHGS Challenge via the UKGE website. https://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/bookevents.php?subcat=bhg

Book tickets via the UKGE website. As usual, players will also need a pass to attend at least the Saturday & Sunday of UKGE as well as their event entry tickets. The expo is open on Friday, and many of the other events and a huge number of open gaming tables are open from Thursday, so those of you planning on making a long weekend of it may wish to book longer UKGE passes to cover Friday or Thursday also. With no "Take That" concert running at the same weekend this year, hotel prices are also considerably cheaper than in recent years, with Premier Inn & Travelodge - branded hotels currently showing as available for around £40/night only 10-15 minutes from the venue.

UKGE also features over 40 other miniatures and boardgame tournaments this year, including X-Wing, Blood Bowl and Star Wars Armada as well as a huge trade show, so there's plenty of opportunity to make this a weekend excursion for your entire club, whatever systems they are currently playing.

Currently we have about a dozen players signed up for the Challenge this year, which puts us within reach of either exceeding or matching last years total of 16

Graham Briggs
Peter Card
Peter Dalby
Chad Pillinger
Steve Murton
David Fairhurst
Linda Fairhurst
BRIAN ESPIE
Phil Powell
steve brown
Paul Bartlett

In order to plan table allocations we're looking to lock in the maximum player numbers fairly soon, so if you are thinking about attending please make sure to book in promptly!

Phil Jelley has pointed out that the UKGE website shows the FoG competition as 900pts, not 800.

Probably needs correcting. Both Phils can't be right ...

In case any of our players at the BHGS Challenge have missed it, the arrangements for parking at the NEC have changed this year. It's now £12 per day, £14.40 for 2 days or £21.60 for 3 - however, to get the discounted rate you need to book in advance at https://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/carparking.php.

The booking is linked to your car registration so you can't share it!

Thanks Phil - that's what you call an open period! 13 different armies from all 3 books. Should be fun!

The UKGE app, and my ticket, shows a 9:30 start. The BHGS site, which I assume is correct, says 09:00.
