Version 8.0.4 Steam ???

Post by GabeKnight »

Hey Devs, what's up with that? I did not sign up for any OoB beta!
Today my Steam client updated the game to v8.0.4. beta???

I'm not sure I'm complaining, as the new build did fix the graphical deformities. :D

Still, it's strange and I felt like reporting it.

Confirmed.
I think this also means that steam-player will not be able to play multiplayer with non-steam guys on 7.1.8.
I got a PM about this from one of my opponents.

Ok, I was just about to make a post about this as I'm not signed up for any betas. I was kind of pissed at first because it reset all my settings.

Same here. Steam updated me to 8.0.4 and multiplayer doesn't work anymore.

WOW. The last update dumped ALL my saved games....all those trying 50 turn games against AI that...well, I've got 260+ hours on this game, with the results being completely erased was updates that I can't really see the difference except in negative ways. Actually, I have 261 hours...but that last hour was just me weeping over this happening again. So soon. I don't mind resetting my options but all that progress lost and me having to start some of these grueling campaigns over AGAIN before completing them. Maybe I didn't get the memo...is this supposed to add to ambiance of a war game, the frustrations of loss over and over, even when you feel like you're winning sometimes? If THAT is the case, well done! LOL!

Truthfully? I'd just bought the whole series a short while before the latest v. 7 update ruined things. I gave it a go and was interested in the upcoming Soviet DLC...and 1/2 way through reading the pop-up, I'm informed Steam is updating the game, all my progress is lost again AND...now I'm allegedly in some sort of Beta mode?

I read from SOMEWHERE, the recommendation to just reload prior versions of the game if one is having difficulties or unsatisfactory experience. I'm not incredibly computer-saavy and am not sure I can revert to previous satisfactory versions of the game without crashing it all. That seems like a wee bit of poor advice to a paying customer actually. Try translating that type of advice to other situations for a laugh.

The rational part of me says to set this wonderful series aside for several months until the dust settles and go elsewhere for a bit. It's like I'm being herded into the arms of Panzer Corps 2 when I'm doing my LOYAL best to LOVE this game.

There. THAT being said, I love the game. The update somehow looks crisper and more defined which I noticed immediately. Sadly, I couldn't see if my tanks have sprouted barrels once again, through my tears. Will they turn to tears of joy?

I'll be thankful and surprised if my avatar on this Board isn't change to 0- Latrine Specialist.

Cheers!

LuckiIy, I did not lose any savegame progress, neither for the base game nor inside my mod. Besides having to switch back to fullscreen from windowed mode, nothing "bad" happened during the update.

But I've noticed that some folder names in the game's installation folder have changed. Maybe that caused some saves to not work anymore?
Anyways, I'm really glad OoB looks alright again at least...

LOLOLOL. So, I DO believe this was a STEAM issue, as my game library has a nice "modern" look to it today. I'm no longer in BETA category and signing in/loading to resume my latest campaign in DESERT SAND and I find my complete history restored AND I'm where I left off...in the jungles and slogging through a 60 turn battle against the Japanese. Good to be back.

I DO love this game but this particular campaign feels more like icons on a slow moving grid square board game. I think I can finish it but I don't think I'll be playing it again. I guess I'm spoiled by the action and pace of Panzer Corps. Anything past 30 turns seems to me more like drudgery than entertainment.

Hope everyone else's bits are all restored to good working order and as good as or better than when we were all whisked away.

Cheers!
