Division B
Triarii - Kingdom of Soissons 461-486 AD beats rexhurley - Numidian/Moorish 220-56 BC 45 - 11
I can only apologise to Rex for game this where if anything at all (and I really mean at all) could go wrong for the Numidians it did. It started with a really awful map for Numidians - a river ran through it but very few woods grew there and divided the map perfectly for the Roman infantry. The unbroken Roman line had HI follow up paths that were long and/or twisting repeatedly catching evading lights, Nellie the only elephant pursued straight into the jaws of two flank attacks while at least two and possibly three fragmented raw Roman Limitati had not had their deficiencies properly explained to them and stood up repeated attacks.
Although it is often frustrating to play against skirmishing lists this can only have been frustrating using them. thanks to Rex for putting up with it.

Div A
klayeckles (persians) beats youngr (romans) 44 to 6.
with cav superiority, and patience the persians were able to frustrate the romans and eventually overwhelm them with numbers. it didn't hurt that the roman commander couldn't roll a dice to save his 4 mistresses when the roman legions did finally engage.

Division C
Sunnyboy - Jewish 167-164 BC beat Breogan - Greek (Mercenary) 460-281 BC 62-57
A bloody stand up slogging match that shattered both sides. Fortunately for the Jews a couple of fragged zealots made it through the last turn to squeak home with the win.
Thanks for a great game, well played!

phoyle3290 - Jewish Revolt 66-135 AD defeats MikeMarchant - Roman 24 BC-196 AD - 42-9
I had really good terrain advantage making it very difficult for his legionaries to charge my zealots. Nice playing against you!

Nijis (Abbasids) defeated SpeedyCM (Rus + Polish) 63-48.
The Rus had a tough line of heavy infantry. The Arabs had defensive spear, good for delaying tactics, and a slight cavalry and light troop advantage. The Rus chewed up the Arab center but the Arabs - barely - turned the flanks in time to take the victory. Thanks to the rough terrain on the Arab left, the naphtha troops got to put their grenades to good use.

Well done, phoyle3290 a well managed battle. Once you had the high ground, and rocky high ground at that, I had the choice of either trying to take the position or sitting in the flat and we'd not have had a battle. Heavy infantry don't really work uphill on rough terrain. I oght to have launched my auxiliary flanking force much earlier, before I launched the main assault, but I have never been ccused of patience.phoyle3290 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 1:47 pm Div D
